Product Background

More than 60 years ago, Hammons Products Company began marketing and selling American Black walnut shells in the United States. The shells make up a large percentage of the nut and serve as a very useful product for a wide range of applications. It is an excellent soft grit abrasive media used for blast cleaning and tumbling. The shell is used by the oil industry as lost circulation material and as a filter media cleaning produced water. Most recently, Black Walnut shells have been discovered as a great natural medium for athletic turf fields. Black Walnut is the main shell that we grind and size. We also process English and Pecan shells.

Applications

Black walnut shells are used as media in an abrasive blast to polish and clean soft metals, plastics, wood, and stone. They are used for surface preparation of parts and equipment to be painted. The black walnut shell is an effective abrasive media for moldings, castings, and electrical parts, etc. Shells are also used in barrel tumbling and vibratory applications to clean and polish. Other utilizations of the walnut shell are: scrubs in the cosmetic and soap industry; filter media for hydromation systems; extenders in adhesives; fillers in castings; and as loss circulation material in the oil industry.

Storage Information

The walnut shell should be stored in normal dry storage. Moisture level kept at 10% or below. Safeguard material from pests. The product will keep for an extended time (3-5 yrs) under these conditions.
