Uses
  • Epoxy and Urethane Tooling Board.
  • Carbon Foam and Monolithic Graphite.
  • Additive Manufacturing Substrates (3D printing).
  • Wood and Fiberboard Patterns.
  • Plaster, Gypsum, & Sacrificial “Knock-Out” Mandrels.
  • Do not use for water-soluble “Wash-Out” Mandrels.
Application
  1. Before applying Chemlease® LFC 2208W, the surface should be clean, dry and free of dust and debris. If using hygroscopic (moisture absorbing) substrates, first dry the substrate prior to sealing.
  2. Apply Chemlease® LFC 2208W to the surface (1-2 ft2 ; 0.2 m2) using a well saturated cloth or brush in horizontal and vertical strokes until evenly coated. Wait a few seconds for the coating to soak into the porous surface. While still wet, wipe off excess product with a second clean cloth to achieve a level coating.
  3. Cure for a minimum of 1 hour at room temperature. An oven or air powered heat gun may be used to rapidly cure coats.
  4. Apply additional coats of Chemlease® LFC 2208W in the same way, allowing cure between coats. The number of coats required is dependent on the surface porosity. The surface will be smooth to the touch when completely sealed. After the final coat, allow a minimum of 1 hour cure at room temperature.
  5. Optional: To achieve the highest quality surface finish, the cured LFC surface may be:
    • Sanded and polished with 800 - 1000 grit sandpaper.
    • Top coated with Chemlease® water based mold primers (MPP) to enhance gloss and provide enhanced durability for higher volume production.
  6. Before molding, apply a Chemlease® release agent on top of the sealed substrate. Water based release agents are recommended. However, select solvent based release agents may be used if first checked for compatibility. Consult your Chem-Trend representative for specific recommendations.
