Chemlease® MPP

1 of 7 products in this brand
Chemlease® MPP are adhesion promoters and mold primers for plastic and metal molds, suitable e.g. for substrates made of polyester (gelcoat and non-gelcoat processes), epoxy or phenolic resin. MPP are very good pore fillers, but do not replace the use of release agents. Using it without a release agent can lead to significant damage to the tool. MPP products are also used to repair and refresh stressed mold surfaces. Chemlease® Release Agents (all) should be applied to primers only after curing. Spray application is mostly used for new (green) shapes, touch-ups are done manually wipe on / leave on or wipe on / wipe off.

Mold Preparation
  • Clean the mold of all oils, silicones, waxes and other contaminants e.g. with Chemlease® Mold Cleaner EZ. The rag used should be changed regularly to ensure contamination is not transferred back to the mold.
  • Only use in well-ventilated rooms until the mold surface is "squeaky clean". Normally 4 passes WipeOn/Wipe off are sufficient.
Spray On / Leave On (Porous Substrates)

Spray the entire mold surface with a thin, even film. Allow to dry and harden for 15-30 minutes at room temperature without further wiping. Apply a second coat in the same way. Allow the top coat to harden for at least 2 hours.

Wipe On / Leave On (Porous Substrates)
  1. Saturate a clean, lint-free, soft 100% cotton cloth (eg Chemlease® Cotton Cloth) with Chemlease® MPP. Apply the sealer generously to the dry, clean mold and distribute thinly evenly over an area of about 30cm². The product fills existing pores and micropores.
  2. Particular care is required to ensure that there are no large overlapping areas.
  3. Dry and harden at room temperature without further wiping. Adhere to the curing time of at least 30 minutes (depending on temperature and layer thickness). Depending on the surface condition (porosity of the mold), apply further layers. 1-2 layers are often sufficient. At least 6 – 12 layers are required to seal porous material, depending on the structure and material properties (PU or epoxy resin, different densities). Individual preliminary tests are recommended for precise determination. Allow the top coat to harden for 1-2 hours. Only then can the mold be further processed with release agents in the usual way.
Wipe On / Wipe Off (Closed Surfaces)

Proceed as under "Wipe on / Leave on" but immediately after applying the layer wipe the still damp layer with another clean cotton cloth. As soon as the product begins to dry, wiping is no longer possible and would produce defects and streaks. Normally 1-2 wipe on/wipe off coats are sufficient. Allow the top coat to harden for at least 1-2 hours. Only then can the mold be processed further in the usual way with release agents.

Storage & Handling

Storage

Do not store above 38°C. Keep containers closed at all times to avoid evaporation, contamination and premature reaction. If the product is stored in the cold, it must be brought to room temperature before use. Discontinue use if the expiry date has passed.

Handling

Keep away from sources of ignition during storage and use. Wear solvent-resistant protective gloves when applying.
