Chemlease® MPP 2684W

1 of 7 products in this brand
Chemlease® MPP 2684W has been formulated to seal molds and tooling in the composites sector, both FRP and advanced composites. It is suitable as a mold sealer and adhesion promoter for plastic and metal molds, including substrates made of polyester and vinyl ester (gelcoat and non-gelcoat processes), epoxy or phenolic resin, BMI, PU and most metals. Chemlease® MPP 2684W is an excellent sealer but cannot be used as a release agent. Using Chemlease® MPP 2684W without a suitable mold release agent may damage the mold.

Product Type: Sealer

Compatible Substrates & Surfaces: Composites, Epoxies, Metal, Phenols, Plastics, Polyesters, Vinyl Esters

Applications & Uses

Application Method
Mold Preparation

After the mold has been cleaned of firmly adhering residues by mechanical cleaning and subsequent cleaning with water, we recommend cleaning the mold from all oils, silicones, waxes and other contaminants, e.g. with Chemlease® Mold Cleaner EZ in a well-ventilated area (see Fig Cleaner Product Data Sheet). The cloth used must be changed regularly to ensure that contamination is not transferred back to the mold.

Application

Wipe On / Leave On

  1. Soak a clean, lint free, soft 100% cotton cloth (we recommend our Chemlease® Cotton Cloth) with Chemlease® MPP 2684W. However, the soaked cloth should not drip. Spread Chemlease® MPP 2684W in a thin film onto the dry, clean mold evenly over an area of approximately 30cm². The product fills existing pores and micropores.
  2. Particular care is required to ensure that there are no large overlapping areas and no running noses.
  3. Dry and harden at room temperature without further wiping. Adhere to the curing time of at least 30 minutes (depending on temperature and layer thickness). Depending on the surface condition (porosity of the mold), apply 1 - 2 more layers. 2 - 3 layers are often sufficient. More layers may be required to seal porous tooling blocks, depending on the structure and material composition (PU or epoxy resin, different densities). Individual preliminary tests are recommended for precise determination. Allow the top coat to harden for 1 - 2 hours. Only then can the mold be further processed with release agents in the usual way.
  4. To check whether the sealant has completely cured, you can apply a drop of water to an edge area and wipe it off with a clean cloth after a few seconds. If no trace of the drip remains, Chemlease® MPP 2684W is fully cured.

Important: The recommended number of mold coats and drying and curing times are general guidelines based on a wide range of applications and demolding conditions. Under special conditions, such as extreme mold geometries or low humidity, longer curing times or a higher number of layers than specified may be necessary.

Storage & Handling

Storage

Do not store above 38°C. Keep containers closed at all times to prevent evaporation and contamination. If the product is stored in the cold, it must be brought to room temperature before use. Discontinue use if the expiry date has passed. Although Chemlease® MPP 2684W is a water based product it is still flammable and as such must be stored well sealed away from sources of heat and ignition.

Handling

Keep away from sources of ignition during storage and use. Wear solvent-resistant protective gloves when applying.
