Features & Benefits

Features

MetalShield® #295 Metal Seam Sealer has high tensile strength and accommodates minor movement of metal substrates by providing excellent elongation and recovery properties.

Applications & Uses

Application Area
Application Method
Use

MetalShield® #295 Metal Seam Sealer is designed for sealing vertical and horizontal seams as well as fastener heads on metal roofs.

Preparation

Application surfaces must be clean, dry and properly prepared. The surface to be primed must be free from ponded water, oil, dust, dirt, asphalt or other contaminants, which would inhibit adhesion of the product. Any loose, flaking or poorly adhered material must be removed by wire brushing (to base steel) or power washing using a high-pressure jet with a minimum of 35 mPa (5000 PSI).

Application

Stir in the container and thoroughly mix until uniform and consistent. MetalShield® #295 Metal Seam Sealer may be applied by brush, roller or by commercial grade airless spray equipment. Min. 35mPa (5000 PSI) pressure and 0.38 mm – 0.51mm (0.015” -0 .020”) spray tip). This elastomeric sealant is designed to be brushed or “flow coated” onto seams and laps. A bulk caulk gun is commonly used to apply 12 mm (½”) bead to seams less than 3 mm (1/8”) wide. Joints, gaps or laps larger than 3 mm (1/8”) require MetalShield® Cover Tape.

Coverage Rates: 2.8 m/L for 100 mm laps(35 linear ft/U.S. gal for 4” laps), 2 m/L for 150 mm laps (25 linear ft/gal for 6” laps), 6.2 m/L for 12.5 mm bead (70-75 linear ft/U.S. gal for ½” bead). Approximately 0.3 L/m² ( ¾ U.S. gal/sq.) for flow coating laps on a standard “R” type panel. Application over asphalt coatings will cause bleeding and discoloring of seam sealer.

Dry Time: Wash-off resistant upon application, dry to touch over night, 90% cure within 1 week, full cure in 21 days. Allow 7 days before applying a water-based acrylic reflective coating. Allow minimum 12 hours before applying Bakor MetalShield® #517 White Elastomeric Roof Coating and MetalShield® #518 Gray Elastomeric Roof Coating.

Limitations

The minimum slope for MetalShield® #295 Metal Seam Sealer application is 2% (¼” per 12”). Previously applied shop coatings, high gloss or other “high tech” coatings which are firmly adhered must be wet sand-blasted or wire brushed to abrade the surface prior to priming to permit proper bonding. Metal panels previously finished with Kynar are generally not acceptable and will only be considered on a job to job basis with written approval from Henry Canada.

Areas to receive MetalShield® Cover Tape must be applied first. Do not apply MetalShield® Cover Tape over uncured MetalShield® #295 Metal Seam Sealer.

Do not attempt to retouch while film is drying. Bakor MetalShield® #295 Metal Seam Sealer should be applied when the ambient temperature is a minimum of 2°C (35°F) and rising. Application should only be performed in dry weather when there is no chance of precipitation within 24 hours after application. Precipitation includes rain, frost or heavy dew. Avoid heavy foot traffic for 24 hours. Keep tools clean.
