The Natural Vasoprotector
- Escin is the active component of the Aesculus hippocastanum plant (Hippocastanaceae family) which has been used in the traditional medicine for centuries. Also known with the common name Kastana and Horse chestnut, there is a still existing ancient superstition of putting in one's pocket a horse chestnut's seed to prevent or treat arthritis.
- First isolated in 1953, Escin is a complex mixture of saponins that has been shown to have anti- edematous, venotonic and anti-inflammatory properties. Nowadays it is considered useful to treat diverse conditions such as hemorrhoids, varicose veins, hematoma and venous congestion.
- Indeed, Escin increases the blood flow towards the veins and it raise cardiac output; so, for this vasodilation's effect, it is considered as an anti-inflammatory aid product. During the years, its anti- inflammatory, anti-edematous and venotonic properties have been confirmed by in vitro and in vivo studies as well as by clinical tests.
