Science
Having an oily scalp, with a high amount of sebum, makes people more prone to dandruff, which is one of the most common undesired conditions causing the skin on the scalp to flake and to become itchy. Malassezia is a genus of fungi present on the scalp surface known to be one of the main culprits in causing dandruff. Malassezia feeds on the lipids from sebum and oxidizes them. These oxidized lipids can end up causing inflammation and barrier dysfunction, leading to scalp irritation, itchiness, and the appearance of visible flakes.
Seascalp™ biomarine ingredient reduced, in vitro, the growth of Malassezia furfur, the accumulation of lipids and the expression of pro-inflammatory genes, while it helped enhanced genes involved in the barrier function and antioxidant defense for a more protected scalp. In vivo, the ingredient helped provide a healthy and more hydrated scalp with less itchy sensation as well as flake and grease appearance, being even able to extend these benefits two weeks after the product application. Seascalp™ biomarine ingredient has shown its efficacy both in leave-on and in rinse-off applications.
