Applications
  • One of the largest applications for Stannic Chloride is its ability to toughen glass.
  • As hot glass is released from the mold into a spray or vapor of Stannic Chloride, a thin film of tin oxide is deposited on the surface of the glass.
  • The film imparts a scratch and scuff resistance to glassware such as bottles and jars used for food and beverages.
  • Stannic Chloride can also provide electroconductive coatings for solar collectors.
  • A thin tin oxide coating on glass panels used in solar collectors provides an electroconductive path for the energy collected by the panels.
  • Stannic Chloride is used to stabilize PVC plastics against heat.
  • Unstabilized PVC can be degraded by heat and other forms of radiation.
  • Stannic Chloride acts as an intermediate in the formation of organotin compounds such as thiotin, one of the most efficient heat stabilizers available.
  • It also imparts exceptional clarity to the product which can be used for blow-molded soft drink and cooking oil bottles and other applications where high transparency is desirable.
  • If the presence of water is required, a Stannic Chloride Solution may be preferred.
