Efficacy Testing Information

Improved Skin Barrier Function:

After pre-treatment with 0.1% sodium carboxymethyl beta-glucan in a hydrogel or 0.4% sodium carboxymethyl beta-glucan in an oil-in-water emulsion, skin was damaged with sodium dodecyl sulfate and water loss was measured.

Result: Sodium carboxymethyl beta-glucan increased protection (compared to untreated skin) by over 50% in the hydrogel formulation and by over 75% in the o/w emulsion.

Increased Skin Firmness & Protection from Photoaging:

The forearm skin of ten volunteers was treated with an emulsion containing 0.04% sodium carboxymethyl beta-glucan or with a placebo over a period of 28 days. Photoaging was simulated by exposing the skin to irradiation twice a week at 0.75 MED during this period.

Result: Sodium carboxymethyl beta-glucan increased skin firmness by approx. 30% by day 14 and approx. 80% by day 28.
