Applications & Uses
- Applications
- Usage
- Natural and pigmented concrete surfaces.
- Exposed aggregate concrete.
- Stamped full depth concrete and overlays.
- Natural and cast stone, slate and flagstone.
- Colored and natural gray concrete pavers.
- Brick and other masonry surfaces.
- Unglazed tile and stucco.
- Installation Steps
- Surface preparation - All surfaces must be clean, sound, dry and free from any bond inhibiting substances including, but not limited to, grease, oil and any other contaminants or loosely adhered materials. For concrete substrates, a minimum concrete surface profile of CSP-1 to CSP-3 is required depending on overall substrate and application conditions, and coating or sealing requirements. At the time of application, minimum and maximum substrate temperatures must be 50°F (10°C) and 90°F (32.2°C), respectively. Temperatures outside these limits may negatively affect film formation, and lead to other application issues detrimental to performance and esthetics.
- Mixing - Prior to use thoroughly stir or mechanically mix MiraGard HD 50 to ensure any settlement of solids are brought back into suspension with the solvent vehicle.
- Application - Using spray equipment: Solvent-resistant pump-up sprayers or battery-operated, such as an SMK sprayer for maximum production, may be used. Apply one to two light even coats depending on substrate porosity, performance and service conditions. Two coats will always provide the best results. The use of a high volume fan tip will ensure ease of application. Do not over-apply and allow to puddle onto the surface in order to facilitate proper solvent evaporation and curing of MiraGard HD 50. Using Brushes/Rollers: Although spray application is most recommended, MiraGard HD 50 can be applied by conventional 3/8” – ½” nap high quality roller covers or by natural bristle brush.
- For Best Results
- Always install a minimum 4’ by 4’ test area or job site mock-up for owner approval of acceptable color, texture, finish, adhesion, and any other critical requirement prior to proceeding. Protect materials at all times from excessive heat and cold, and pre-condition to room temperature as necessary.
- Regularly check wet film thickness with mil gage, and monitor consumption to ensure correct application rates are obtained.
- The proper application of this product is the sole responsibility of the end user. Job site visits by Miracote representatives are only for the purpose of making recommendations. Supervision and quality control are the sole responsibility of the user.
- It is recommended to apply in two coats at the published coverage rates. Do not apply in one thick coat.
- Measure substrate temperatures to ensure that material is applied when temperatures are between 50°F (4.5°C) and 90°F (32.2°C) during placement.
- Verify all ventilation ducts are sealed shut or blocked to prevent diffusion of solvent fumes.
- During application in direct sunlight and elevated temperature conditions thinning MiraGard HD 50 with acetone at a rate not to exceed 25% is acceptable to improve absorption, increase working time, and minimize bubbling and streaking.

Technical Details & Test Data
- Coverage Rates
- Smooth surface:350-400 sf./gal.
- Rough/Porous surface:275-300 sf./gal
Actual consumption rates are dependent on many factors including, but not limited to, substrate texture and porosity, variations in applied thickness and normal allowance for waste.
- Mix Ratio
Single component, pre-mix prior to use.
- Limitations
- Apply only when temperatures are a minimum of 50°F (10°C) and a maximum of 90°F (32.2°C), and surface is thoroughly dry.
- Do not apply if rain is anticipated within 24 hours, or if ambient temperature is within 5°F of dew point.
- Due to solvent content, must be applied over compatible substrates only.
- Not for use in residential garage floors within SCAQMD air quality jurisdiction only. Acceptable for use in residential g
- Not recommended over many acrylic thin film paints, sealers or coatings – Application can be accomplished following special manufacturer’s instructions when application is over Miracote coatings, stains or sealers.
- Keep away from ignition sources.
- Sealed surfaces may be slippery when wet. Consider the incorporation of a slip-resistant medium.
