- Uses
As a primer / undercoater on unfinished MDF and softwoods such as pine and cedar. Also, ideal for application on hard woods such as oak, poplar, birch and maple.
- Application
Application Procedure
All surfaces should be properly sanded. On wood or MDF, apply one or two coats of AQUIFI WB UNIVERSAL PRIMER. Wet film application should be 4 – 5 wet mils per coat. Scuff sanding between coats is recommended. Any M.L. Campbell® water-borne or solvent topcoats can be applied over AQUIFI WB UNIVERSAL PRIMER. If using solvent borne topcoat ensure primer is thoroughly dry (min. 2 hours dry time at 4-5 wet mils and at 75F and 50% humidity). Lower temperatures and higher humidity will extend dry times. When using AQUIFI WB UNIVERSAL PRIMER as a white primer under a clear topcoat, it is
recommended to use Non-Yellowing Clear Conversion Varnish to minimize yellowing.Note: Hot spray application is not recommended. Apply using only stainless steel or plastic spray equipment. Before application material, surface and air temperatures should be a minimum of 65°F.
Tinting
AQUIFI™ WB UNIVERSAL PRIMER can be tinted with GIW, Pratt & Lambert or Puratoner WB colorants, up to 3 ounces per gallon maximum.
Equipment Clean Up
- All equipment should be flushed with warm water or water/alcohol immediately after use.
- A subsequent flush with alcohol will ensure all moisture is removed from equipment.
Surface Preparation
- New Work: Remove any dirt, grease or other contamination and sand as required.
- Old Work: Strip old finishes completely and remove all contaminants from the surface. Make sure surface is dry. Finish as new work.
Reduction
No reduction is required. However, small amounts of clean water may be used for specific equipment. Over-thinning due to the high solids content of this product can cause sags and potentially reduce stainblocking properties. Thinning should be limited to 5-10%.
