Applications & Uses

Compatible Substrates & Surfaces
Uses

AC Sealer may be used on any interior wood surface where a high performance, high solids, moisture, water and chemical resistant finishing system is needed. AC Sealer is much more durable and moisture resistant than conventional nitrocellulose or vinyl sealers with added benefits of easy application, quick drying, high solids and build.

Application

Application Procedure

AC Sealer is formulated to be ready to spray after catalyzation, and has excellent sanding between coats (use no-fill type sandpaper). Never use more than two coats of AC Sealer or apply a complete coating system of over 5 dry mils as film integrity may be effected. Always sand white wood (unfinished) with no more than 140 grit sandpaper before application of AC Sealer. Catalyzed (cross-linked) coatings develop extremely durable finishes, but require controlled application procedures. Do not apply material in too heavy a film (4 to 5 mils wet are recommended). Too much coating weight can cause recoating and durability problems. A light (scuff) sanding between coats is always necessary. An excellent, very durable sealer coat can be obtained by applying just one coat of AC Sealer (apply no more than two coats). Recommended total finish system dry mil thickness should not exceed 5 mils dry. Always thoroughly agitate during application.

Note: Hot spray application is not recommended. If hot spray equipment is used, temperature setting should never be over 110°F.

Mixing

AC Sealer has been designed to start its cross-linking (drying) with the addition of 10% (12.8 ounces per gallon) of M.L. Campbell C1491 Care Catalyst. Always mix catalyst in thoroughly before application. No waiting time is necessary before using catalyzed product. After catalyzation, AC Sealer has best performance properties if used before 4 hours.

Equipment Clean Up

  • Use lacquer thinner to clean up all equipment.
  • Dispose of dirty solvent and cleaning rags in a safe and approved manner.
  • Solvent or lacquer soaked rags should be stored in a water filled, closed containers prior to disposal

Surface Preparation

  • New Work: Remove any dirt, grease or other construction contamination and sand wood as required. If desired, use M.L. Campbell WoodSong II stains or Microtone dyes.
  • Old Work: Strip old finishes completely and remove all contaminants from surface. When surface is dry, sand as required. Finish as new work. If cratering develops on old work, Fish Eye Killer may remedy this problem, if the contamination is not severe.

Reduction

M.L. Campbell AC Sealer is shipped at spraying consistency (approx. 24-27 seconds in a Ford #4 Cup). If further reduction is necessary, use M.L. Campbell C16036 Standard Lacquer Thinner.
