Maca is an adaptogen also known as Peruvian Ginseng. Dried maca is rich in amino acids and lipids, and contains several secondary metabolites which are only found in the maca plant; macaridine, macaene, macamides and maca alkaloids.

More than two hundred compounds have been identified in turmeric, with the most significant bioactive compounds being fat soluble polyphenolic pigments called curcuminoids, which are responsible for turmeric’s distinctive orange-yellow hue. Curcumin is considered the principal curcuminoid.

Pomegranate’s ruby red color is a result of its rich content of anthocyanins. It also contains ellagitannin compounds and is good source of dietary fiber, and several vitamins and minerals.

A potent source of polyphenols, green tea contains EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) as well as chlorophyll, catechins, tannins and the flavonoids kaempferol, quercetin and myricetin. It is high in dietary fiber, amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Matcha green tea is specially made from tea plants that are shaded for three to four weeks before harvest, slowing down plant growth, resulting in increased chlorophyll, caffeine and amino acids, particularly L-theanine.

Lemon (Citrus limon), native to India and South Asia, is a small evergreen tree related to the orange, pomelo, tangerine and grapefruit. The ellipsoidal fruit has a green rind when unripe, which turns yellow when ripe, and the pulp is segmented and light yellow in color. Lemon juice is used in a wide variety of beverages and foods, and it can also be used as a preservative for a short period of time on foods that oxidize, because its high acid content slows down the oxidation effect of enzymes. Famous for their sour taste as a result of their high citric acid content, lemons are also an excellent source of naturally occurring vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, and contain the plant compound, citrus limonin. Like other citrus fruits, lemons contain a variety of phytochemicals like the flavonoid glycosides hesperetin, naringin, and naringenin, as well as containing smaller amounts of flavonoids like ß-carotenes, ß-cryptoxanthin, zeaxanthin, and lutein. They are a good source of dietary fiber and contain a number of vitamins and minerals, including B-vitamins (niacin, folate, thiamin, riboflavin, folate, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine) as well as zinc, magnesium, copper, iron, calcium and potassium.

Coconuts are rich in healthy fatty acids (including medium-chain triglycerides) and phytosterols, and a good source of vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

Rich in antioxidants, apples contain quercetin, chlorogenic acid, procyanidin and catechin, and they are a good source of pectin, a soluble dietary fiber.

MCTs are easily digested. Unlike other fats, when MCTs are processed in the body they go straight from the gut to the liver, where they are rapidly converted into ketones to provide energy to the body. Preliminary studies suggest C8 is the most metabolically active medium-chain fatty acid, most easily converted to energy in the body, although more studies are needed.

Beet root is an excellent source of betalains, especially betacyanins, which are responsible for the color of red beets. They are also a rich source of dietary nitrates.
