HSWADA-B is a unique blend of amine chemistry with dimerized acids. The resulting product is a triangular shaped wetting agent with high efficiency toward acidic based pigments. The top of the triangle offers a weak functional group with an affinity for alkaline pigments. This chemistry should be considered when both acid and base pigments are present. The key to the utilization is to maintain maximum mobility of the grind paste during initial incorporation of pigment. This can be achieved by choosing a resin that has good wetting characteristics and provides the lowest viscosity at the maximum solids. Continue to add pigment until viscosity reaches 100-135 KU at 120-150°F. The order of pigment addition should be primary colors and high oil absorption pigments followed by extenders and rheology modifiers. Refer to HSWADA-60 for activation of bentonite clays. Systems include: alkyds, drying oils, amino resins, vinyls, acrylics, oil modified urethanes, polyesters, epoxies and epoxy esters and polyesters.
