Phael Flor Export Organic Ginger Madagascar belongs to the same family as Turmeric and the mode of exploitation of both spices is close. Although often called “ginger root” it is actually a rhizome. Indeed, Ginger is a knotted, thick, beige underground stem. Phael Flor Export is cultivating Ginger on its own 10-acre Moramanga site, located 100 km east of the capital city. Even more eastern, in the Beforona region, other plantations are also exploited in partnership with local growers but always under the company’s supervision to make sure that the products comply with organic farming requirements. Plantings operations are carried out in November before the rainy season. The roots are dug out in July of the same year and in some case of the following one if they do not meet a proper dimension. Treatment consist on cleaning and cutting the root ins chips form and finally drying them. All those operations are conducted mechanically with appropriate machines. The yield in terms on dried finished products/raw materials is 10%.
