MAC-Guard™ MAC-710 Primer

1 of 1 products in this brand
MAC-Guard™ MAC-710 Primer is a 100% reactive, acrylic resin based on methyl-methacrylate (MMA) that cures in one hour. The product's low viscosity allows it to penetrate and reinforce concrete substrates. Applying MAC-710 to properly prepared concrete is the first step to the installation of any MAC-Guard acrylic flooring system. MAC-710 can also be applied to other substrates.

Typical Uses

MAC-Guard MAC-710 Primer is designed to achieve a bond to concrete substrates that is greater than the strength of the concrete itself. This product can be used to seal and reinforce concrete surfaces but more often is used to anchor a MAC-Guard acrylic flooring system to a concrete substrate.

Application of Materials

MAC-Guard MAC-710 Primer should be used in combination with RT-R component and applied over mechanically prepared concrete substrates at a rate of approximately 100 sq. ft. per gallon. Depending on substrate surface profile and porosity, coverage rate may vary between 80 - 120 sq. ft. / gallon. It is necessary to follow the mix ratios found in the MAC-Guard dosing chart. MAC-710 is typically applied neat (without fillers or pigments). MAC-710 should be applied using a roller or brush at a rate that allows for penetration of the concrete substrate but still maintains a continuous coating on the surface. A second coat of MAC-710 may be required on a porous substrate or if the coating appears to be inconsistent. Repeat procedures above until a continuous film is formed.

Surface Preparation:

To provide a lasting bond, the substrate must be thoroughly cleaned of grease, oils, curing membranes, wax, and any other contaminants. The substrate surface must be dry and free of laitance and unsound concrete. Floor surfaces receiving MAC-710 Primer must be thoroughly cleaned and prepared by shot blasting or other approved mechanical means.

Technical Details & Test Data

Bond Test

A bond test should be conducted to determine the adequacy of the surface preparation and the bond to substrate before proceeding with the application of the primer to the entire area. The bond to the substrate should be greater than the tensile strength of the substrate itself. When the test is performed, there should be fractured aggregate along the entire patty. If only a fine laitance or small amount of concrete is attached, additional mechanical preparation is required.

Safety & Health

Caution

MAC-Guard MAC-710 Primer is a flammable liquid in its uncured state (as provided). All sources of ignition should be removed from the work area before handling this product. No smoking, open flames, or sparks should be permitted in and around the work area. Workers should wear protective clothing including goggles and impermeable gloves. If allowable exposure limits are exceeded, organic vapor respirators should be worn. All on-site personnel should become familiar with the SDS and hazard section of application binder in order to increase hazard awareness.

Packaging & Availability

Standard Packaging

MAC-Guard MAC-710 Primer is packaged in 38 lb pails and 400 lb drums. Powder hardener (RT-BPO-50) is available in 10 lb containers and 55 lb boxes. These products are sold by weight, not by volume. Product properties require that containers provided are not completely filled. See price sheet for actual container weight and volume.
