Special Materials Company SMC Global 688 flame retardant is a unique cyclic phosphonate product. Chemically equivalent to Amgard CU, this high phosphorus containing material is suited for applications in both thermosoling of polyester fabric for wash durability as well as topical non-durable applications of a variety of fabric types and contraction. It also demonstrates excellent flame improvement with many textile back coatings. SMC Global 688 is suited for acrylic based latices and other oxygen containing polymers. SMC Global 688 is used to assist the textile back coater in meeting the NFPA 701, MVSS-302, and other flammability standards for textile fabrics. It has excellent water solubility and can be added directly to the latex without the addition of an emulsifier. In addition, this neat material has shown promise as a flame retardant for several polymer compounds including polyurethane foam, elastomer, TPU, and adhesives.
