BIO-SOFT EN8-90 is a nonionic surfactant prepared by ethoxylating fatty alcohol. It provides moderate, stable foam and high detergency in such uses as laundry detergents, dishwash and hand soaps. It is water soluble and highly effective at low concentrations, working well in warm and hot water applications. It can also be used as a dyeing assistant, emulsifier and wetting agent.

BIO-SOFT EN8-90 is slightly toxic orally in rats (LD₅₀ = 1, 642 mg/kg) and is moderately irritating to skin and mildly irritating to eyes at 10% solution.

BIO-SOFT EN-890 is available in bulk, 55 gallon drum (net weight 450 lb/204 kg), and tote (net weight 2200 lb/998 kg) quantities.

Storage & Handling

Storage & Handling
  • Normal safety precautions (i.e. gloves and safety goggles) should be employed when handling BIO-SOFT EN8-90. Contact with eyes and prolonged contact with the skin should be avoided. Wash thoroughly after handling material.
  • It is recommended that BIO-SOFT EN8-90 be stored in sealed containers and kept in a cool, dry place. If material is frozen it should be heated gently and stirred to ensure it is homogeneous before use.
  • Bulk Storage Information: BIO-SOFT EN8-90 can be stored in vessels made of 316 stainless steel, however carbon steel is adequate. Material should be stored between 37-44 °C (98-111 °F). An internal hairpin coil of carbon steel with low pressure steam (under 50 psi) should be used if heating is required. Mild agitation is required if tank is heated. 316 stainless steel is preferred for pumps, pipes and transfer lines, however carbon steel is adequate.

Occupational exposure can occur primarily through skin contact or via inhalation of vapors and mists. Engineering controls, personal protective equipment, and other workplace practices should be used control these exposures.
