Technical Details & Test Data

Emulsification Versatility

BIO-SOFT® N-Series Blends have a high capacity for emulsifying a variety of fragrance, industrial, and food oils.

BIO-SOFT® N-1200 - Emulsification Versatility

Method: Oil emulsification capacity, 10 wt% nonionc in deionized water titrated with oil to form a stable emulsion for 20 min, 22 °C, required HLB for d-limonene = 12, petroleum oils = 10, canola oils = 7.

Iodine Stability

BIO-SOFT® N-1200 forms stable iodophors and can replace NP-12 in sanitizers for dairy farms and breweries.

BIO-SOFT® N-1200 - Iodine Stability

Method: The nonionic surfactant complexes with iodine to form iodophors, which can release free iodine when in solution. Free iodine functions as an antimicrobial agent. Potentiometric titration tests showed that the level of free iodine remained constant over the time of the study in the presence of BIO-SOFT® N-1200 and was equivalent to NP-12 and a competitive nonionic blend.

Safety & Health

Toxicity

BIO-SOFT N-1200 is slightly toxic orally (LD₅₀ > 2,000 mg/kg), and at 10% active causes minimal skin and eye irritation.

Packaging & Availability

Standard Packaging

BIO-SOFT N-1200 is available in drums (430 lb, 195 kg), totes (2205 lb, 1002 kg), and in bulk quantities.

Storage & Handling

Storage & Handling
  • Non-Bulk Storage Recommendations: BIO-SOFT N-1200 should be stored in closed containers and kept in a cool, dry place away from incompatible materials (see Section 10 of the SDS). If material is frozen it should be heated gently and stirred to ensure it is homogeneous before use.
  • Bulk Storage Recommendations: BIO-SOFT N-1200 should be stored in vessels of 316 stainless steel or fiberglass with a corrosion liner. Heating and agitation are recommended for outside storage. Material should be stored between 80-100 °F (27-38 °C). An internal hairpin coil of 316 stainless steel with low pressure steam (under 50 psig) should be used if heating is required. Pumps, pipes and transfer lines should be 316 stainless steel.
  • Normal safety precautions (i.e., gloves and safety goggles) should be employed when handling BIO-SOFT N-1200. Contact with eyes, nose or prolonged contact with skin should be avoided. Wash thoroughly after handling BIO-SOFT N-1200.
