It may be applied over leather, wood, varnish, ceramics, rocks, stones, dried flowers, shells, and many others. It is ideal as a gap/cavity/crack filler. If in doubt, test a small sample of the item you wish to cover. NU-LUSTRE-66 will NOT ADHERE to silicone or wax. Product Highlights

Prior to working on your main project, it is always advisable to TEST the product on a scrap piece of the same species of wood. Make sure all surfaces are completely dry and free of grease, oil, wax or any finish. Use Circa 1850 Furniture Cleaner or Swing TSP Concentrate solution to remove grease, oil, or wax, and allow surface to dry. Use a plastic drop cloth to protect all areas surrounding the working surface. Sand all wood surfaces in the direction of the grain with either a Circa 1850 Finishing Pad (coarse) or sand paper (180 grit). Remove all dust from the wood surface using compressed air or vacuum.

In a clean, plastic container, mix equal quantities of PARTS A and B. Do not mix more than is required for one application. Using a synthetic paint brush or sponge, apply a coat of the new mixture. Ensure the solution does not puddle on the surface. The bleach should activate immediately. Allow the wood to dry for a minimum of 3 hours. Reapply a new mixture of bleach if additional lightening is desired.

Once the desired appearance has been achieved, the surface needs to be neutralized. In a separate clean, plastic container, mix one part white vinegar with 2 parts warm water. Apply the diluted vinegar to the surface using a synthetic paint brush or sponge. Ensure the solution does not puddle on the surface. Allow to dry thoroughly for a minimum of 24 hours. After the surface has thoroughly dried, sand the wood if desired to remove any grain raise or rough areas. Follow the label directions for sanding for any finish that will be used.

    Directions

If NU-LUSTRE-57 RESIN is hard or has crystalized, place the bottle into a hot water bath until the liquid is transparent. Cool for 24 hours prior to using.

    1. MEASURING: part RESIN to 1 part HARDENER. MEASURE EXACT AMOUNT of both RESIN and HARDENER in SEPARATE measuring containers. DO NOT GUESS AT MEASUREMENTS OR TRY TO ESTIMATE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRAIN ALL OF THE FLUID FROM THE BOTTLES RATHER THAN MEASURING. Inaccurate measuring will result in a sticky surface. If you set the RESIN bottle (WHITE CAP) in warm water for 10 minutes, you will have a thinner mixture and fewer bubbles will appear on the object being poured. Be very careful not to get any water into the epoxy!

    2. MIXING: Pour the measured RESIN and HARDENER into CLEAN MIXING CONTAINER #1. Be sure to scrape sides and bottom of measuring containers when pouring into mixing container. Stir thoroughly. In order to ensure a beautifully finished product, it is extremely important that the RESIN and HARDENER are thoroughly mixed. Transfer mixture to CLEAN MIXING CONTAINER #2 and mix thoroughly using your stir stick to scrape the sides and bottom. Once completed, pour immediately

    3. POURING IMMEDIATELY: As soon as NU-LUSTRE-57 is thoroughly mixed, pour evenly over the surface. Use a piece of plastic or cardboard to spread the mixture. A brush may be used for touching up sides or difficult to reach places. CAUTION: If NU- LUSTRE-57 is left in mixing container, it may become hot and begin to thicken or harden.

    4. BUBBLE BREAKING: After a few minutes, bubbles may rise to the surface. They may be broken: A) by gently exhaling through a straw on bubbles until they are gone - do NOT inhale fumes! or B) by using a butane or propane torch. Set to a low flame, hold the torch about 15cm (6”) away from surface and sweep rapidly across until bubbles disappear. You may need to go back over surface again approximately 30 minutes later. Do not torch surface too close to curing time as it may make permanent waves in the surface. Do NOT use a hair dryer or heat gun.

    5. CURING: Placing a cardboard or plastic tent slightly above the coated item will prevent any dust from settling onto the surface. The coated item should be allowed to cure for 24 hours in a clean, dust-free room. NOTE: If your item remains sticky after several days, you may have measured or mixed incorrectly. To resolve the issue, the item may be repoured by following the directions - paying special attention to both MEASURING and MIXING. The new pour will then harden correctly.

    6. CLEANING UP: Use KLENK’S EPOXY THINNER or SUPER DEGOOPER to clean up NU-LUSTRE-57 while it is in the liquid state. After NU-LUSTRE-57 has cured, it may be removed by using CIRCA 1850 HEAVY BODY PAINT & VARNISH REMOVER, or by sanding.

    7. PROTECTION: A paste wax such as car wax or ANTIQUAX MARBLE WAX can be applied over the cured epoxy to protect the finish from scratching.

    Conditions
NU-LUSTRE-55 should be used in a room where the humidity is below 50% and the temperature is 20°-25°C (68°-77°F) when pouring. When the humidity is over 50% a dehumidifier should be used in the room where the pouring and curing is taking place.
    Coverage

Mix only the amount of NU-LUSTRE-55 that you need at one time. Unused RESIN and HARDENER should be left in original containers. After pouring, you have about 20 minutes before NU-LUSTRE-55 begins to thicken. Coverage for approximately 1.5mm (1 ⁄16”) thickness (pour coat):

    • 236 mL kit will cover approximately .19 m2 (2 ft2 )
    • 473 mL kit will cover approximately .37 m2 (4 ft2 )
    • 946 mL kit will cover approximately .74 m2 (8 ft2 )
    • 3.78 L kit will cover approximately 3.0 m2 (32 ft2 )

It is easier to mix smaller batches (946mL or less). For larger surfaces, mix multiple smaller batches.

    Drips

If the project has straight edges and you do not want the mixture ro roll over the edge, a dam can be built with high quality painter’s tape.

If you allow the excess mixture to drip over the sides of the item being covered, use one of the following methods to remove these drips.

    1. Before pouring apply painter’s tape on the edges of the back of the item. After NU-LUSTRE-57 has stopped dripping (approximately 2-4 hours), the tape along with the drips may be pulled off.
    2. Apply wax such as ANTIQUAX to the edges on the back of the item. Since NU-LUSTRE-57 will not adhere to wax, the hardened drips can easily be removed with a utility knife.
    3. Drips may be sanded off after the item has cured.
    Ideas for Use

MAGAZINE AND NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS, PHOTOGRAPHS DIPLOMAS, PLAQUES + JIGSAW PUZZLES

After the clipping, print, picture or puzzle has been mounted to the surface, seal the entire item with a solution of 4 parts white glue and 1 part water. This will prevent it from becoming translucent. Wait 3 to 4 hours before covering entire surface with NU-LUSTRE-57.

KIDS PROJECTS NU-LUSTRE-57 can make any children’s craft project come to life. They can protect their favorite puzzle or popsicle stick collage with its high gloss finish. They can use it to simulate water and create floral designs for Mother’s Day. They can pour it into SILICONE MOLDS and make holiday ornaments. Or work with them to embed sports or trading cards, magazine covers, newspaper clippings or photos onto their desk or cover of a photo album. ALWAYS SUPERVISE KIDS WHEN USING NU-LUSTRE-57.

GAP, CAVITY + CRACK FILLER NU-LUSTRE-57 is an ideal product for gap, cavity and crack filling as well as fortifying rotting wood. Mix up only what you require. Scoop out the mixture into the crevices that require filling. The product will SELF-LEVEL so it’s best to build up slowly. You can always sand off any excess when the product has cured.

SIMULATING LAKES OR STREAMS NU-LUSTRE-57 dries to a clear finish and thus is ideal for simulating water for any craft or model building project. A few drops of universal tinting colors may be added to the mixture to represent the blues or greens of an ocean and create the illusion of varying depths.

FAUX FINISHES For the more adventurous types, you can create an opaque finish by adding universal tinting colors to your NU-LUSTRE-57 mixture. This colored finish is now ready to create the most lively of projects from your kid’s play table to colored tiles to decorate the walls. And if you mix up multiple colors, NU-LUSTRE-57 is the perfect product to give a tired, old bathroom counter a faux marble finish. Cover the surface with one color and then just drizzle other colors on top and use a popsicle stick to create swirls that simulate the veins found in marble. Be adventurous and let your creativity shine through.

    Surfaces
For best results, the surface to be covered must be dry and free of dust, wax, grease or oil. The item to be coated should be about 5cm (2”) above the work area so that the extra mixture will drip off the item. It is a good idea to put a newspaper or a drop cloth under the item to catch the drips.
    Seal Coat
Porous materials require a seal coat in order to prevent air from escaping into the finish. To create a seal coat, use 1⁄4 the NU-LUSTRE-55 that you would normally use for a flood coat. Brush a thin coat on the item. Wait a minimum of 4 hours before applying the flood coat.
