- Characteristics
- ALA is a coenzyme that exists in mitochondria and a vitamin-like antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. And its antioxidant capacity is 400 times that of vitamin C and vitamin E.
- ALA is both water and fat-soluble. It can reach any part of the cell after being absorbed in the body through the intestinal tract, providing the human body with energy.
- It is an indispensable component in the cell metabolism pathway to produce energy. It neutralizes free radicals and improves cells' ability to repair.
- ALA can chelate with Fe2+, Cu2+, Hg2+ and other transition metal ions and arsenic, reducing the body's oxidation and inhibites the formation of free radicals.

- Food & Nutrition Applications
- Functions
- May improve stability of blood glucose levels - ALA significantly improves insulin resistance and insulin sensitivity, which is better than V-C and V-E.
- May enhance liver and heart function -ALA may effectively increase the content of antioxidant enzymes in alcoholic liver disease tissues.
- Might help restore fatigue and improve dementia
- The combination of lipoic acid drugs and acetylcholinesterase inhibitorscan may effectively decrease the onset of dementia and alleviate some patients' conditions.
- The combination of lipoic acid and L-carnitine may exert anti-aging effects and improve memory.
- Might restore beauty and might have anti-aging effect
- ALA has an outstanding performance in antioxidation and can remove reactive oxygen species which cause skin aging. Besides, it can be easily absorbed through the skin because its molecule is smaller than that of V-E and it is both water and fat-soluble.
