- Surface Preparation
A clean surface is necessary for proper bonding of the Armor Plate 950. Remove corrosion, dirt, oil and other contaminants. When coating marine surfaces, the surface should be cleaned from the top of the splash zone to two feet below low-tide water level. Sandblasting, a procedure which works well underwater, is the preferred method for preparing surfaces for the AP 950 application.
- Mixing
The Armor Plate 950 mixing ratio, by volume, is 1 part Resin (part A) to 1 part Cure (part B). The flexibility/hardness characteristics of the coating may be adjusted by using more Cure (part B). More part B causes an increase in flexibility, and a decrease in the coating hardness. DO NOT use more than 1.5 parts Cure to 1 part Resin, as poor bonding will occur under immersion conditions.
- Application
Armor Plate 950 coating may be applied by hand trowel, putty knife, or other flat blade. A 1/8 in. to 1/4 in. film thickness will provide adequate protection. For marine coatings, the best application method is by a person wearing a wet suit, rubber gloves, life jacket, and a life line secured to the structure. A heavy ring of the Armor Plate 950 is applied by hand, above the water line. The coating is then smeared uniformly, using an up and down motion, over the area to be coated. The edges of the coating are feathered when the desired thickness is obtained.
