At Maker’s Malt, we are Canadian craft maltsters with our origin in farming. As expert malt barley farmers we are passionate and connected to our land. The concept of doing a start-up craft malting operation was born out of the success of the recent Craft Beer movement. We saw a disconnect between the needs of the local Craft Brewer/Distiller and the typical source of their malt supply. The typical malt source is a large multinational company. They source grain from many farmers (with considerable agronomic differences), blend it, and malt it to meet a standard acceptable to the large corporate brewers that are their main customers. Maker’s Malts only target audience is the Craft Brewer/Distiller and we create malt crafted to our customer’s needs. From brewers to bakers, beers to bagels, our malt brings life to the products our partners create. The technology we have employed to ensure our core concepts are met is cutting-edge, but the philosophical ideals also have roots in the past. It harkens back to the day when grain was grown and then processed locally by another small business. Wheat was harvested, ground to flour, baked to bread and consumed locally. Barley was grown on small farms, malted and brewed and enjoyed never having traveled more than a few miles. There has been a shift back from the massive consolidation of the previous decades to this local approach that we stand behind. Our unique vertical integration (growing and malting) allows us full control of the process and incentivizes Maker’s Malts to grow for quality over quantity. We believe that craft malting is a natural extension of the craft beer/distilling and the local food movements and that our core values are aligned.

"We are an interdisciplinary team of sweetness fanatics, born from startups in Chile and Mexico. We are connected by a common passion; producing stevia leaves, extracts and sweet solutions which provide added functionality, reduced sugar, low calories and a great taste for our customers. What did we do? We realized that an excess of sugar is added into processed foods across the world. We envisioned the need to reduce that sugar excess through a 100% natural approach, without affecting the taste of the products we love. So we searched all over the globe and found a plant called Stevia Rebaudiana Bertoni, which produces family of sweet compounds we refer to as stevia extract. What did we create? The first organic stevia production process, which is 100% aqueous during all stages of extraction and purification. We took on a challenge: Maintain the purity and the integrity of stevia from leaf to extract. We developed the first organic process for extracting and purifying this wonderful sweetener without the use of alcohol or enzymes. In fact, our stevia is 100% purified in water. If you want to sweeten anything from a cup of tea to your morning coffee or cake, we can do it 100% naturally and with fewer calories. We work to constantly improve our sweetness even further in quality and nutritional profile. We aim to meet your every expectation, and to live by our mission statement: To do what we say on every label, with every drop of sweetness. We want to deliver healthy sweetness solutions, which are natural and organic. These solutions are always high quality and low process, in accordance to our principles of honesty, consistency, sustainability and responsibility."

"Hibernia Misiones was established in 1988 as an alcohol distillery and later transformed into what is now a fully equipped Organic Sugar Mill. It is located in the village of Santa María de Fe, 225 kilometers south of Asunción, the capital of Paraguay. This is the area where the Jesuits began their evangelization in the 16th. century. They built protected reservations and missions to educate the indigenous people and showed them how to work the soil and raise cattle. Conservation of the environment is therefore a very high priority in the local community and Hibernia Misiones plays an important and complimentary role in this regard, hence all of our products are 100% organic. Hibernia Misiones sources organically grown sugar cane from a total of over 1.200 hectares. Of this, approximately 150 hectares are in hands of some 50 farmers. We provide regular technical advice and assistance through supply of certified organic seeds and compost, enable and assist local farmers to keep their farms free of contaminants, and in compliance with certified organic standards. Special emphasis has been placed on the management and rotation of crops for example, such as beans, corn, mandioc, etc. and that, combined with strategic use of specific areas for cattle breeding, means that the small farmers have increased self-sufficiency. Our products are fully certified by CERES, from Germany, and operated according to Kosher standard rules. The organic certification process has been a very long one, and all of our sugar cane growers have been supervised and controlled since 1997 There are no circumstances where inorganic fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides can be used in our sugar cane fields or those of our independent suppliers. Our Sugars and Molasses are Organic Certified for US/Canada/EU/Japan."
