"In 1972, AKZO developed its first para-aramid. In 1982 it was decided to start with its commercial production. In the meantime, the new fiber had been renamed Twaron, and forecasts for the product were better than ever before. In 1986, the new plants in Delfzijl and Emmen began production. The first spool, which was made using raw materials from Delfzijl, came off the spinning machine in May 1986. Twaron entered the market one year later. In 2000, Teijin Ltd. took over all Twaron activities. This marked the start of a series of successful and ambitious investments and expansions. Teijin Aramid now markets four different brands of aramid worldwide. Twaron is by far our strongest brand. Since April 2017, all aramid activities within Teijin Ltd. have been merged under one joint aramid business unit, called Teijin Aramid. This was a special and historic step within Teijin, and a compliment to the entire aramid organization. With the addition of our Teijinconex neo plant in Thailand, and our Teijinconex and Technora plants and two R&D centers in Japan, we are now more than ever a strong and international organization. Teijin Limited, our Japanese parent company and the holding company of Teijin Group, is a technology-driven global group offering advanced solutions in the areas of sustainable transportation, information and electronics, safety and protection, environment and energy, and healthcare. Teijin Group has some 150 companies and around 16,000 employees spread out over 20 countries worldwide."

"Daiwa Fine Chemicals Co., Ltd. was founded in 1963 by its founder, Yoshiaki Okuhama, as a trading company dealing in processed food products and industrial chemicals. Four years later, Daiwa Fine Chemicals Co., Ltd (Laboratory) was established to do research and development work as well as manufacturing. One of the things that makes the Daiwa Kasei Group unique is the great balance we can strike between our own manufactured products and the products we also carry from other companies. We grow our business into a wide variety of different product categories, starting from metal finishing chemicals, fine chemicals, and inorganic industrial chemicals to products that might not obviously appear to be related, including food materials and feedstuffs. Our originality is apparent in each category we work in. There are three business strategies for the Daiwa Kasei Group: Ecological Approaches, Niche Approaches, and Global Approaches. Our work to develop solutions that include cyanide-free silver plating solutions and oil-free volatile corrosion inhibitors demonstrates both our commitment to technologies and products that are kinder to the environment as well as our need to realize a sustainable society. We have captured significant market share, despite our existence within a niche market. We are also strengthening our global business for products that include feedstuffs and food materials for our Overseas Business Department. We do things no one has done before and create products that no one can imitate. Our three fundamental pillars of creativity work to further highlight the importance of our in-house technologies for niche markets that larger companies would not touch. Those same three pillars also signal the value of the Daiwa Kasei Group as we share our unique products with the world. We are Chemical Innovators. All of us here will continue to work hard to develop new and interesting products. In doing so, we will increase our value as a group for the future. We can’t wait to show you what we can do."

Calico Coatings was founded by racers, for racers. Tracy Trotter, owner and a racer himself, set out to develop the industry's most technologically advanced coatings — with the ability to withstand the extreme conditions of high speed and engine wear. Calico quickly gained a reputation as a leader in high performance with race teams and engine builders to solve issues of friction, wear, heat and corrosion. Trotter started the company with a little help from a special friend. "After working in the industry for several years I knew I could do this for myself. So, with the little savings I had and a small loan from my grandmother, I opened the doors of Calico Coatings." Starting with only two employees, Calico has now grown to 40 employees, running two shifts in order to meet the growing demands of their customers. For more than 20 years, the Calico team has worked relentlessly to maintain their reputation as the highest quality coating company in numerous industries in addition to racing. To remain on the cutting edge of coating technology they have also made advancements in thin films. "Our goal is to be the best in the coating business when it comes to quality," said General Manager Jennifer Jenkins. "We have been blessed with an unbelievable team of people at Calico Coatings and they have been the reason for our success through the years. When many small businesses have struggled to keep afloat, Calico has been able to successfully navigate through the financial challenges of the recent years. In 2007, Calico expanded their operation by adding a laboratory facility dedicated to the research and development of new coatings, including diamond-like coatings. By the end of 2012, Calico combined their operations into their corporate headquarters. Then in 2019, an additional expansion to make room for more thin films machines is now a state-of-the-art, 30,000 sq. ft. manufacturing and research facility located in Denver, NC.

"After selling another very successful business venture in the 1970’s, noted materials scientist Dr. William R. Cuming founded Cuming Corporation in 1980, with a mission to provide innovative materials, including syntactic foam flotation and insulation equipment for the offshore oil and gas industries, and microwave absorber products for the electronics, telecommunications, defense and aerospace industries. From its small start, the company experienced continual growth over the next three decades. Cuming Microwave was spun off as a separate company in 2008, in order to better focus on the rapid growth of our product lines and custom engineering capabilities. Cuming Microwave is located in three plants with 118,000 square feet in Avon, Massachusetts, just south of Boston. These include a common headquarters building, machine shop, R&D equipment, as well as constant informal contacts between our technical staffs. In 2004, with the continued growth of our RF anechoic chamber business, Cuming Microwave purchased Lehman Chambers, a custom construction company and one of our best customers. Cuming-Lehman Chambers is a wholly owned subsidiary, and can provide full turn-key anechoic chamber facilities. Today, we are a world leader in the installation of anechoic chambers for antenna measurements, RCS measurements, passive intermodulation, and EMC compliance. Our RF materials group has a catalogue of standard products, including magnetic and carbon RF absorbing materials, and low loss dielectric products. However, our strength derives from the technical knowledge of our people – we thrive on developing custom solutions to the most challenging materials applications. We engage in extensive research and development activities and testing to provide customers with cost-effective, creative materials solutions. We offer a full-service approach, from engineering to manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of our products."
