Fibersol®, a digestion-resistant soluble dietary fiber backed by over 30 years of extensive clinical research, offers a way to potentially boost GLP-1 and satiety through diet via normal food and beverage consumption. Fibersol® may increase the appetite-regulating hormone GLP-1 when consumed at 10g with a meal in healthy individuals. Research has shown that Fibersol® may delay hunger and may increase satiety perception and stimulate appetite-regulating hormones in humans when ingested with a meal.3 A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study of two doses of Fibersol® (5, 10g) with healthy subjects (9 men and 10 women) demonstrated that taking 10g of Fibersol® with a meal stimulated production of satiety hormones GLP-1 and peptide YY (PYY) and affected perceptions of hunger and appetite.

Of the six satiety hormones measured, GLP-1 and PYY significantly responded to the 10g Fibersol® treatment. There were significant increases in area under the curves (AUCs) for PYY (P = .001) and GLP-1 (P = .038) caused by 10g of Fibersol® compared with 0g Fibersol® treatment. In addition, GLP-1 and PYY were significantly increased over time by ingestion of 10g Fibersol® compared with 0g Fibersol®.

In addition to the significant increase in the two appetite-regulating hormones (GLP-1 and PYY), this study also showed that ingestion of 10g of Fibersol® resulted in greater satisfaction and lower prospective consumption after a meal, suggesting decreased hunger and prolonged satiety. Perceptions of hunger and satiety were assessed by visual analog scale (VAS). Prolonged satiety was experienced by the subjects consuming 10g of Fibersol® compared with participants ingesting 0 and 5g of Fibersol®. Subjects who consumed 10g of Fibersol® felt fuller for 1.5 hours after the meal, compared with the other groups.
