AHCC® is a standardized extract of cultured Lentinula edodes mycelia. AHCC® is a mixture of components derived from cultured mushroom mycelia. Mycelia are the root-like parts of fungi which grow in the soil or wood, while the umbrella-shaped part we generally eat as a mushroom is a fruiting body of fungi. For AHCC®, we use mycelia of Lentinula edodes, also known as “Shiitake”. While general mushroom products mainly contain a polysaccharide called beta-glucans, AHCC® is rich in partly acylated alpha-1,4 glucans, which are not normally found in mushrooms and derived only through our proprietary manufacturing process.
