Locust bean gum is a natural products, extracted from the carob tree, mostly found in the Mediterranean region. Locust bean gum is extracted from the carob bean, the seeds of the carob tree. And there is carob powder, also called carob flour; a products derived from the ripe, dried and grounded locust tree pods of the carob tree.

    Applications

    The carob bean gum from the carob seeds/carob beans is used in the food industry as a food thickening agent in dairy or in baked goods to increase dough quality, or to prevent fillings from seeping. LBG is also used in pet foods. The mining industry uses it to refine products and the paper and textile industry applies it too, where they use carob gum and carob chips from the carob tree to thicken their end products.
