- Product Highlights
OMACIDETM IPBC 20% DPG Fungicide is a broad spectrum liquid fungicide based on the widely used fungicide active, 3-iodopropynybutylcarbamate (IPBC).
All types of aqueous based coolants are susceptible to contamination from bacteria, yeast, and mold. Regardless of the type of coolant, bacteria are the most frequently detected microbes in used coolant. Fungi (yeast and mold), while usually present, are not as easily detected by conventional methods, because the filamentous mycelial forms of mold tend to accumulate in machine crevices, in piping, on sump walls, gear boxes and other solid surfaces. Routine attempts to completely eliminate bacteria through continual use (and sometimes overuse) of bactericides alone usually result in conditions that encourage the growth of fungi. Heavy fungal contamination can often require both mechanical and chemical treatment. Dumping, cleaning and recharging fluids are costly procedures.
Moreover, in today’s regulatory climate, disposal of used fluid can be expensive. Therefore, it is important that the preventive treatment of a system include a fungicide to ensure longer system life and savings on replacement, cleaning, and disposal costs. In order to control fungal contamination of metalworking fluids, the concentration of IPBC active substance required is 100-150ppm. The effective level of biocidal product added to the metalworking fluid system depends on many factors, hence the optimum dose must be determined by the user.
However, typical treatment levels are:
– 10-15g/kg (1.0-1.5%) OMACIDE™ IPBC 20% DPG Fungicide added to the metalworking fluid concentrate which is used at 20:1 (5% concentration in use).
– 0.375-0.625g/kg (375-625ppm) product as sold for post treatment dosing. This treatment delivers 75-125ppm active IPBC to the metalworking fluid system. We suggest OMACIDE™ IPBC 20% DPG Fungicide be added into areas which have good circulation to ensure proper mixing into the coolant.
