Functionality

Caliber® 183 starch is an acid-thinned waxy maize corn starch developed for use in surface applications on paper and packaging grades. Another major application area is as an adhesive for gum tape. Caliber® 183 exhibits excelllent viscosity stability in all applications. Caliber® 183 has a low viscosity range.

Application

Caliber® 183 can be applied to the surface of paper using a size press or calendar stack (water box) to help improve surface strength and printability. It has also been gum tape applications. Contact your Cargilll Technical Service representative for assistance with optimizing the performance of Caliber® 183.

Preparation - Caliber® 183 starch solutions are obtained by dispersion of the powder in water and cooking by steam: Jet injection of steam: continuous cooking at 260° F to 305° F, at final solids up to 33%. Open vessel with stirrer: 20 min batch cooking at 190° F to 205° F, at solids up to 25%. Your Cargill Technical Service personnel can help determine the ideal cooking conditions for maximum performance of Caliber® 183.
