Superfilm® 227D starch is an oxidized dent corn starch developed for use in surface applications on paper and packaging grades. Superfilm® 227D has has less tendency to setback or form retrograded amylose particles compared to an unmodified native dent corn starch. Superfilm® 227D has a medium-high viscosity range. It has a defoamer added.

Applications

The principle application of Superfilm® 235 is at the size press. Solids levels are dependent on desired viscosity, paper characteristics and type of paper or paperboard to which it is being applied. Cargill's Technical Service personnel can assist you in setting guidelines for your application.

Preparation-
Superfilm® 235 starch solutions are obtained by dispersion of the powder in water and cooking by steam: Jet injection of steam: continuous cooking at temperatures up to 325° F, followed by dilution to the desired concentration. Open vessel with stirrer: 20 min batch cooking at 190° F to 205° F, followed by dilution to the desired concentration. Your Cargill Technical Service personnel can help determine the ideal cooking conditions for maximum performance of Superfilm® 235.
