- Installation
As a standard procedure, fresh concrete should be allowed to dry for 28 days before application. All repointing must be completed and allowed to cure at least 3 days. Concrete repair and replacement must be completed prior to application. Patching materials, caulking, sealing materials must be fully cured before applying STAINGUARD-50 except when using asphaltic sealants and other products which are susceptible to solvent attack. While STAINGUARD-50 is compatible with most sealants, specific products should be investigated prior to use.
All surfaces must be cleaned to remove all traces of dirt, dust, efflorescence, mold, salt, grease, oil, asphalt, laitance, curing compounds, paint, coatings and other contaminants. Acceptable surface cleaning methodsinclude shot-blasting, sand-blasting, water-blasting and chemical cleaners. Check with your Chemical Products Industries, Inc. representative to verify suitable cleaning methods, products and that the surface preparation is adequate.
Before applying, it is recommended that preliminary tests be carried out to determine usage and to test the effectiveness of the treatment. Depending on the porosity of each designated surface, coverage rates can vary. Typical coverage is approximately 80-300 square feet per gallon.
STAINGUARD-50 should be applied by low-pressure (15 to 25 psi) pumping equipment with a wet fan type spray nozzle. Alternate methods include deck sprayer, saturated brush, roller or mop application. DO NOT AEOROSOLIZE.
ALWAYS TEST first in an inconspicuous area and allow 24 hrs. to cure to determine product effectiveness and approximate coverage rate.
DO NOT DILUTE OR ALTER.- For Natural Stone Countertop Application:
- Apply generously to the surface. Surface should have a wet look for 3 to 5 seconds during installation. After 5-10 minutes, repeat application. Allow 5-10 minutes after second application for product to fully penetrate surface then buff the surface with a clean white dry cloth to remove excess product. Additional product might be needed to ease the buffing process. Do not let material puddle or pond on surface. STAINGUARD-50 will not prevent surface etching or wear and may lighten or darken some surfaces.
- For Concrete And Masonry Application:
Before applying, it is recommended that preliminary tests be carried out to determine usage and to test the effectiveness of the treatment. A coverage rate of 150-250 square feet per gallon is recommended for dense concrete structures including high rises, parking garages and bridge decks.
STAINGUARD-50 should be applied by low-pressure (15 to 25 psi) pumping equipment with a wet fan type spray nozzle. Alternate methods include nap roller (1”) or by brush.
On vertical surfaces, apply in a flooding application from the bottom up so the material runs down 6 to 8 inches below the spray pattern.
On horizontal surfaces the liquid material should pond on the surface at least 5 seconds before being absorbed. Residual standing liquid should be broomed or squeegeed to untreated areas. Do not allow material to dry in puddles or ponds.
During application, precautions should be taken to protect the surrounding area from overspray and run off.
Allow 24 hours for the product to cure before subjecting to traffic, moisture or oil.
