- Product Background
- Each tree can produces 8 to 24 kg of pits. Contain one or two white pits covered with a red skin. The pit accounts for 95,5% of the weight of the fruit, and contains about 30% Oil. The oil extraction yield varies with the technique, in the range of 18 to 28%.
- Karanja Oil is derived from the Punjam / Karanja tree (Pongamia glabra), which is found throughout India. The Karanja tree belongs to the family of the Leguminaceae, and reaches a height of around 8 m, although they have been reported to reach 18 m. Its white or mauve flowers appear between April and September depending on the region. About 10 to 11 months later, between February and May, the fruits have ripened. They are elliptical and are about 7.5 cm long and 3 cm wide.
