Features & Benefits

Product Properties

AFCONA – 5244 is the nearly 100% active solid version of AFCONA – 5044. It is especially designed for high-solid systems where the presence of solvents must be limited. When used at the same level of active solids, the properties of AFCONA-5244 and AFCONA - 5044 are almost identical. AFCONA-5244 helps pigment dispersion by reducing the interfacial tension between pigments or extenders and the vehicle. It stabilizes the pigments through electrical charge repulsion forces. Due to its nearly 100% active solids, AFCONA - 5244 is very suitable for solvent-free or high solid systems like:

  • epoxies and polyurethane primers
  • UPE applications like gel coat, buttons, SMC, BMC etc
  • PVC systems Because AFCONA-5244 has the same properties as AFCONA-5044, it may be used to replace AFCONA-5044 on the same solids level.

Note: AFCONA – 5244 will become slightly hazy at temperatures below 5°C. However, this will not influence the performance of the product.

Applications & Uses

Addition and Dosage
  • 0.1 - 1.0% based on inorganic pigments
  • 1.0 - 2.5% based on organic pigments
  • For Bentonite gels use 15 - 25% based on the Bentonites
Incorporation

When used in mill-bases, add before grinding. In Bentonite dispersions, use as follows:

  • 87.5-88.5 parts of solvent
  • 10 parts of Bentonite
  • 2.5 - 1.5 parts of AFCONA-5244
