DeCAL 5032 is designed to release bubbles and control foam generated in a wide range of aqueous systems containing surfactants. They are blends of non-ionic surfactants and hydrophobes in a highly refined mineral oil. They are non-silicone based. It is used in many applications including water-based paints, adhesives, carpet backing, paper coating, and effluent treatment.

Applications and Application Method
  • Water-based paints:

Aqueous paints have an inherent tendency to aerate and foam due to the presence of emulsifiers in resin binders. Wetting agents, thickeners and other effect surfactants all help to sustain bubbles once created. DeCAL 5032 effectively combat air entrainment and foam, by promoting bubble coalescence in the bulk, and bubble breaking at the surface. The choice of antifoam will predominantly depend on the binder type in the paint, with factors such as pigment volume concentration and paint viscosity playing their part, especially with the actual dosage level required. Selecting the most cost effective antifoam for a particular paint is very much a practical exercise.

DeCAL 5032 - PV Acetate homo- and co-polymers, including pressure polymers with vinyl chloride and ethylene, acrylate co-polymers.

Both antifoams are designed for moderate to high PVC systems, viz. matt and sheen paints. It is normal practice to add the antifoams as supplied, splitting the dose 1 part to the grind, and 3 parts just before let down with binder. Concentration of use varies greatly, but is normally in the range 0.05% - 0.3% by weight of paint.

  • Adhesives, grouts etc.:

DeCAL 5032 is normally most effective in PV acetate based adhesives/grouts. Acrylic based adhesives respond better to DeCAL 5030. Dosage levels range from 0.1% - 0.5% b.wt. of system.

  • Effluent treatment:

DeCAL 5032 is recommended for foam generated during sludge separation through centrifuge or belt presses. Typical dose would range between 5 - 20 ppm inlet flow.

Storage & Handling

Storage Condition

The efficiency of 5032 is not affected by long periods of storage or frost. However, it is advisable to restore the temperature to min. 5°C and mix the contents after such storage to restore homogeneity and fluidity.
