E-LAQ 525 is an acrylic lacquer that is ideal for coating metal surfaces or metals that have been blackened with EPI's Insta-Blak or Ultra-Blak finishes. The only caveat is that it should not be used on copper or copper alloys. The most notable of these advantages are its depth and clarity, as well as its environmentally friendly and non-flammable chemical composition. Baking improves hardness and durability. E-LAQ 525 provides a water-resistant, hard, and clear finish, but because it appears milky, the user can gage coverage and film depth as the part is coated.

Directions for Use

Recommended film thickness:
Wet: 1.0-3.0 mils.
Dry: 0.5 to 1.5 mils.
Parts may be dipped in the E-LAQ 525 but spray application may be hindered by the viscosity of the product. If diluted with water, spraying will be made easier.
Surfaces must be clean and free of dirt, oil and rust. Although parts wet with water can be dipped into the lacquer, it is best if parts are dried before dipping to avoid dragging too much water into the lacquer. Corrosion properties are best when E-LAQ 525 is used at full strength. 50% (or more) water can be added which will significantly reduce the corrosion protection. Relative humidity, temperature and air flow will affect the drying and film forming characteristics of the coating. Under normal conditions, the water evaporates from the wet coating, leaving the coalescing solvent which flows out from the coating and then evaporates leaving a clear film. Under severe humidity or poor airflow, the coalescing solvent may evaporate before the water. When this occurs, the coating may stay wet and not form a clear film. Keep container closed when not in use as solution surface may develop a film which may be skimmed off.
Solution Concentration
This can be controlled using Zahn Cups. The as is solution will give a time of approximately 52-54 seconds in a #2 cup and 22-24 seconds in a #3 cup.
Removal
The dried coating may be removed with acetone or lacquer thinner.
