Applications

Traditional use:
Thyme is used in herbal medicines to treat respiratory diseases such as bronchitis,whooping cough or inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. The thymol contained in theextract has antiseptic and antimicrobial effects [2,3]. Externally, thyme is used for itsantibacterial properties in inflammation of the mouth and throat, inflammatory skinchanges, to relieve itching, bruising and dislocation [2,4].
In food:
Thyme extract is suitable as a spice extract for flavoring food, such as Mediterraneandishes, sauces, baked goods. It is also suitable for refining desserts or in herbal lemonadesand herbal liqueurs.
In cosmetics:
Due to its aromatic-spicy scent and its antimicrobial, disinfectant properties, thyme extractcan be used in perfumes, conditioning soaps, creams, shampoos, bath additives and footbaths.
