Spray Coating
When solvent based coatings are sprayed, the higher pressure at the nozzle forces the solvent within the coating to evaporate. Therefore, to avoid cob-webbing ( i.e. the coating drying immediately as it leaves the spray gun), extra solvent must be added. DVA BA should be used at levels of between 2:1 and 1:1 (Coating:Thinners) depending upon the application. To avoid microbubbles in the coating, stand 2 minutes before attempting to spray.
Dip Coating
DVA BA may be used to maintain the viscosity of acrylic conformal coatings in open tanks used in dip coating processes. Over time the solvent within the coatings evaporates, increasing the viscosity of the coating, and giving a thicker coating. This solvent loss must be replaced to maintain the correct viscosity to give an economical coating thickness.
In most systems it is sufficient to measure the viscosity of the coating once per week. DVA BA is a flammable solvent blend and should be used in a well ventilated area and all sources of ignition must be avoided.
