ITPSA Food Salmosan

ITPSA Food Salmosan is an innovative and highly technological vegetable based product, covering not only the animal nutrition aspects but food safety as well. It is based on the barrier concept, since it blocks the bacteria fimbrial adherence mechanism to the enterocite, thus blocking bacteria colonization. ITPSA Food Salmosan is tested in several in vivo trials.

Product Highlights

Salmosan® is a plant-derived patented product rich in β-galactomannans that prevents the invasion of the intestinal wall by Salmonella spp. while keeping both the integrity of the intestinal tract and the barrier effect against other pathogens. Salmosan® also shows prebiotic and immunostimulant effect.

Salmosan® protection is also effective against other microorganisms that use fimbriae to adhere to the intestinal mucosa like Salmonella does (Ex: Vibrio parahaemolyticus, E.coli, etc.).

Functioning of Salmosan
How does it Act Effects

Results against Salmonella spp.

Blocks Salmonella fimbriae Prevents bacterial adhesion to the enterocyte and thus bacteria are eliminated in the feces. Salmosan® adheres to type-I fimbriae of Salmonella because its carbohydrates composition is similar to the receptor in intestinal mucosa.

In the farm: Lower risk of fecal shedding, In slaughterhouse: Less carrier and shedder animals, Reduction of contaminated carcasses

Prebiotic effect Stimulates growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria
Immunostimulation Improves local and systemic immunity

Features & Benefits

Importance of Salmosan
  • It is a serious food safety problem: one of the most important zoonosis
  • It has implications in international trade of animal products: many countries have control programs
  • There is an increase of antimicrobial resistant strains: current global trend for a better use of antibiotics in animal production

The use of feed additives of natural origin (as those rich in non-digestible oligosaccharides, in particular of galactomannans) has shown to be an effective complement to other measures implemented in farms in order to control the infection, like strict hygiene, biosecurity and farm management.

How can Salmosan® help?
