LRBG Chemicals USA S 315

LRBG Chemicals USA S 315 is an extremely versatile, internally catalyzed urea formaldehyde powder adhesive system designed for tapeless splicing of veneers on a wide variety of machines. Together with the retarder R-12, the adhesive can be tuned to bond virtually any species on machines with press times ranging from sub-seconds to minutes. LRBG Chemicals USA S 315 is one of the lightest-colored, opaque splicer adhesives on the market, allowing on-site color matching to any veneer.

Product Highlights

S-315 is formulated for applications where flexibility in cure speed is required (e.g. for operations with many splicer machines of various types), and where splice line color requirements vary. S-315 is further characterized by a large operating window, allowing application of the adhesive one day, and bonding up to several days later (dependent on amount of R-12 used), and by a powerful internal release package that does not require any further additives.

Processing Information

Mixing procedure:

  • Best results are obtained with a mix of 60 parts water per 100 parts of S-315. To get a lump free mix, add the powder adhesive to the mixing pot, followed by 60 parts of water, and immediately start the mixer.
  • Water temperature should be 15 - 25°C. Mix for at least 5 minutes and then add the desired amount of R-12 (if needed). At this point, also add any dye if desired and remix for 2 minutes. If the mix is not to be used right away, cover the vessel with foil or plastic wrap to prevent evaporation. Up to 8 parts of additional water may be used to thin out the mix if needed.

Wood species and equipment:

  • S-315 has been successfully used on maple, birch, oak, sweet gum and hickory. Because of its unique polymer base, it performs on maple where most other adhesives fail. S-315 has been used with equipment from LZM, Diehl’s, Ruckle, Fezer and GF.
