The vegetal oil of calophyllus inophyllum is one of our favorite product at Malagassi. Besides beeing an incredible insect repellent, a great moisturizing body lotion and a natural powerfull sun screen, the social and ecological aspect of this plant are truly amazing. Our trees of Calophyllus are growing on a very long (8km) and thin stripe of land located between the Indian Ocean and the Laguna of Loharano. The high density of these trees creates a natural barrier thereby protecting the whole laguna ecosystem from the strong salty wind and water coming from the Ocean. Without these trees this area would be destroyed and eaten completely by the ocean. The harvesting of these nuts for their oil is employing the whole population of 3 villages in the direct area.
