EDAPLAN® 470 is a wetting agent and dispersant for organic and inorganic pigments and extenders in aqueous media. It is ideal for the manufacture of flood/float-free aqueous coatings systems (air dry and force dry, 2K-systems) as well as for the manufacture of aqueous and glycol containing resin-free pigment concentrates. EDAPLAN® 470 stabilizes dispersed pigments and extenders and reduces the mill-base viscosity. Gloss, color strength and hiding power are improved and reflocculation is prevented.

Properties and Applications

EDAPLAN 470 is a wetting agent and dispersant for organic and inorganic pigments and extenders in aqueous media and also suitable for solvent-based systems. It can be used for the production of coating systems based on polymer emulsions and water-soluble resins (air and oven drying, 2K systems) as well as for the production of aqueous and glycol-containing, binder-free pigment concentrates. EDAPLAN 470 stabilizes dispersed pigments and extenders and reduces the mill-base viscosity. Gloss, color strength and hiding power are improved and reflocculation is prevented.

Recommended Levels and Use

The product is supplied in the acid form, insoluble in water. It is recommended to dose the required quantities of neutralizing agent (alkali or amine) before adding the dispersant. The product may also be used pre-neutralized (Caution: Heat evolution). The amine quantity is calculated by [acid number · Mw-amine] / [560 · conc.-amine]. Depending on the neutralizing agent (e.g. AMP 90), additional dilution by water or water miscible solvent may be necessary to improve handling.

Ladder studies are recommended to determine optimum concentration level. Normal dosage ranges from 0.5 - 10 % for inorganic pigments and from 5 - 30 % for organic pigments, calculated on pigment solids. For dosage recommendations of specific pigments and for determination of dispersant demand please consult our additional technical information.
