Viscoat #190 (EOEOEA, EEEA, CBA) is famous polar acrylate but our EEEA called V#190 has different properties compared with other company’s products. Our V#190 is highly distillated, so that it has very low viscosity and color, and no difunctional impurities derived from polyethylene glycol. Our competitors’ product have relatively higher viscosity, higher color, and cannot be a comonomer for acrylic copolymer. Recently, very low volatiles during UV radiation properties are reported [1]. So if you use our products, you can cut down on the frequency of UV lamp maintenance and the work environment will improve because the volatiles will be reduced. V#190 is suitable for adhesives because it has low Tg and high elongation properties along with a polar nature (enough polarity to aid in adhesion, but still an effective diluent for non-polar resins).

MEDOL-10 has a novel unique structure. It was developed for replacement of THFA, tetrahydrofurfuryl acrylate. MEDOL-10 only has exclamation pictogram on REACH. Its viscosity is low enough for many applications like UV inkjet ink. Some of paper said high polarity pendant group induces high curing speed [1]. Dioxolane structure induces high solvency as same as THFA because both THF and dioxolane are good solvent.

Viscoat #155 (CHA) has a simple structure. Cycloalkyl structure induces weatherability with low viscosity, good compatibility and lower shrinkage. As compared with isobornyl acrylate, its viscosity is very low. CHA has relatively higher Tg than other acrylic monomers. Sometimes CHA is used for photoresist because it is easy to hydrolysis because cyclohexanol is secondary alcohol.

It is second choice for crosslinking site of acrylic resin of paintings, adhesives, inks etc. HPA is also useful to control Hydrophilicity and adhesiveness to polar substrate because of it polar hydroxyalkyl moiety. HPA has low di-ester because the reactivity of secondary hydroxyl group is lower than primary hydroxyl group.

HEA is the most reasonable hydroxyalkyl acrylate. It is first choice for crosslinking site of acrylic resin of paintings, adhesives, inks etc. HEA is also useful to control Hydrophilicity and adhesion to polar substrate because of it polar hydroxyalkyl moiety. Our HEA has lower Di-ester impurities than any other companies. It is useful for many industries who want to control cross-linking side reaction. Be careful handling HEA because it has toxicity, corrosivity, mutagenicity because of its fundamental reactivity. We also have lower toxic hydroxyalkyl acrylate, 4-HBA (4-hydroxybutyl acrylate).

Viscoat #150 (THFA) is widely used for UV diluent applications because it is almost colorless and has a high solvency derived from THF group. Because of this high solvency, THFA has strong adhesion properties with several plastics especially PC. Inter molecular interaction of these gels could be formed by hydrogen bonding or entanglement of bulky THF groups Blood Compatibility of poly(THFA) is also studied. Its pendant group is bio-based. It helps carbon-neutral business. The differences between our product and competitor's product are lower color, lower viscosity and better quality consistency. These differences are derived from our unique distillation process.

V#192HP is a highly purified ester of phenoxyethanol and acrylic acid. V#192HP is used for UV diluent inks for the same reason. Generally, aromatic moiety gives tough films with excellent solvent resistance but the adhesion may not be as good as the aliphatic cyclic monomers, but adhesion property of V#192HP is relatively better in the aromatic monofunctional acrylate group [1]. V#192HP is also used for adhesives because of good compatibility and adhesion properties. Sometimes its raw material, phenoxyethanol is considered as Endocrine Disruptors, however, our highly distilled products has really limited amount of it.

ISTA from Osaka Organic Chemical is highly purified by distillation. It has highly branched bulky pendant group. Because of this structure, it has low polarity, low permittivity, high Tg, low surface tension, high dispersive power and high anti-hydrolysis properties. Main application is adhesives to control Tg, surface tension, permittivity and slippage properties. ISTA is also highly distilled even though it has high molecular weight. It has the lowest acrylic equivalent monomer in the distilled monomer We can handle ISTA easily because it is liquid product compared with linier stearyl acrylate, a solid acrylate.

Branched C8 structure like 2-ethylhexyl acrylate and iso-octyl acrylate are famous, but NOAA has linear C8 structure. C8 moiety of NOAA is derived from renewal resources nevertheless the others are derived from petrol. NOAA has very soft property due to its linear structure. 2-MTA is high polarity, low viscosity acrylate monomer. It is the first choice if you need high polarity monomer. It brings soft, flexible and elongate properties to your materials because of methoxyethyl moiety. It is used for acryl rubber to add cold resistance derived from low Tg.

Viscoat #216 (BACA) is a urethane mono-functional acrylate. It has higher purity than our competitors’ product. Due to high purity, it has lower viscosity as UV diluent, and it can form linear copolymer as usual distillated mono-functional acrylate. Users can make better shelf life product due to absence of multi-functional impurities. You can design a polymer that has very high polarity pendant group.

Viscoat#200 (CTFA) is highly purified. Generally, our competitors’ CTFA includes TMPTA and its oligomeric multi-functional impurities because of synthetic limitation. However, our product highly purified so that it does not have TMPTA and multifunctional impurities. The viscosity is lower than the others due to absent of the oligomeric impurities. CTFA is one of the lowest odor monomer among the UV diluent.

BZA is the simplest mono functional acrylate that has aromatic ring. As the result BZA is one of the highest refractive index monomer among mono functional distilled high purity acrylate and that has high heat resistance. Polymer of BZA has good dispersant property with some of pigment due aromatic ring. Osaka Organic Chemical is the Lead Registrant of BZA in REACh. BZA is also known as low viscosity monomer. Our product is highly distilled. We can make homo- or co-polymer of the monomer because of high purity. Quality consistency is also very good.

4-HBA is used for acrylic resins, adhesives, UV diluent. It is water miscible. Its OH group of co-polymer is higher reactivity than the other hydroxyalkyl monomers like HEMA and HEA because of the longer alkyl chain between OH group and polymer main chain. The 2K urethane painting with 4-HBA has higher scratch resistance and stronger mechanical properties because it can form higher crosslinking density due to highly reactive OH group. 4-HBA is also used for UV diluent application because the lower toxicity than the other hydroxyalkyl acrylates, like HEA and HPA which are classified as CMR substances in most of countries.

GMEC is methacrylate monomer with propylene carbonate (PC) moiety. The reactivity of this monomer has been widely studied [1, 2, 3] but it seems that it has not been commercially available. Thermosetting coatings based on the cyclic carbonate-amine reaction are attractive because polyurethane coatings can be made neither isocyanate nor tin catalyst under moderate conditions like 80˚C [1, 2, next page]. That means we can make acryl urethane paint without residual isocyanate and harmful tin. In addition, PC is well used as battery electrolyte solution of ultracapacitor because of its high polarizability, electrolyte solubility, and boiling point. Therefore, the polymer having cyclic carbonate group solves great amount of electrolyte, then the solution (or gel) has high ionic conductivity [3].

Osaka Organic Chemical Industry LTD STA has a very long alkyl chain moiety. Its homopolymers are called Side Chain Crystallization polymers and have not only a Tg but also a melting point (Tm), even though usual acrylic polymers do not have a Tm. Our IBXA is the world highest purity of isobornyl acrylate with great quality consistency. It is commonly used for painting resins, adhesives and UV diluents. Viscosity of an Acrylic Polyol (which is raw material of urethane/melamine 2K coatings) has a very high viscosity because of its hydrogen bonding. High viscosity induces low working efficiency, low solid contents and of course high VOC. Frank et al.
