- Product Highlight
The ULTEM™ family of amorphous thermoplastic polyetherimide (PEI) resins offer outstanding elevated thermal resistance, high strength and stiffness, and broad chemical resistance. ULTEM™ copolymers are also available for even higher heat, chemical and elasticity needs.
ULTEM™ resins uniquely balance both mechanical properties and processability, offering design engineers exceptional flexibility and freedom. ULTEM™ resins are also inherently flame retardant and possess excellent dielectric character. ULTEM™ resins are therefore an excellent candidate for your electric vehicle battery needs where high heat resistance is required.
With its appreciable flow and dimensional stability, coupled with excellent resistance to Li-ion electrolyte, ULTEM™ resins such as ULTEM™ CRS5011 resin are today being used for insulation of Li-ion cell terminals. Given its excellent dielectric character, ULTEM™ resin is also an ideal candidate for bus bar insulation. For other powertrain elements, such as DC power converters. ULTEM™ UTF120 dielectric film is already enabling high temperature film capacitors.
- Product Highlight
ULTEM™ polyetherimide film UTF120 is a high heat and high energy density dielectric film that meets the most stringent technical demands for use in professional-grade dielectric film capacitors. UTF120 film is also available for multiple applications requiring high temperature resistance during processing or application.
Developed to offer excellent handling through metallization, capacitor winding and flattening, ULTEM UTF120 film is processable on existing equipment and has been validated with both film-foil and metalized electrodes including flat and tapered metalized electrode designs as well as patterned electrodes.
ULTEM™ UTF120 PEI dielectric film enables the design of lightweight, compact, high-energy-density capacitors that can store large amounts of electrical energy for long periods without significant current leakage or loss of charge at high temperatures. This technology can offer advantages for capacitor applications, beginning with excellent dielectric and insulative properties. It also maintains low heat loss at target frequencies. The film portfolio, offering different thicknesses to help meet customers’ specific voltage requirements, exhibits stable properties through a range of temperatures (-40 °C to +150 °C) and frequency, including stable capacitance, good insulation resistance, high dielectric constant (Dk) and low dissipation factor (Df). The wide operating temperature capability of ULTEM UTF120 film based capacitors can increase reliability and can reduce or even eliminate the need for active cooling for converter applications. ULTEM UTF120 film also provides excellent handling through metallization, capacitor winding and flattening (squashing). It can be processed on existing equipment, and has been validated with both film-foil and metalized electrodes, including flat, tapered and patterned metalized electrode designs
