Elite goals are to develop products that allow the chemist to formulate environmentally friendly inks, coatings and adhesives; not just for conventional UV/EB markets but also for new applications where solvent based systems are currently used. Working closely with the formulator Univar have developed a range of “Elite” oligomers that impart unique physical characteristics to both the cured and uncured film which has enabled UV/EB technology to be used in areas that would never have been considered a few years ago.

SILCO® is leveling, wetting and dispersing additives that are essential in printing inks and OPVs to provide pigment wetting, dispersing and stabilization.

Often, fillers have to meet very special requirements. In such cases not only good dispersion characteristics are of importance, but also mechanical and dynamic properties of the final products. Improved electrical insulation resistance, better aging and fluid resistance in many materials and improved anticorrosion properties have a crucial role to play in many areas. At Hoffmann Mineral, we developed Aktisil to meet such customer requirements. This special filler is made by treating the surface of Neuburg Siliceous Earth with chemical agents, mostly silanes. The reaction by-products (e.g. alcohol) formed during the manufacture of the different products of Aktisil are largely removed right away during the process. The coupling reaction fixes the silane to the surface of the filler. Any undesirable side-effects that can occur during mixing by direct addition of the silane are virtually eliminated. So the customer can choose from a complete product range of many different types of Aktisil. This is the result of many years of in-house experience and of close cooperation with customers. Joncryl® styrene acrylic resins and emulsions are the key components of high performance inks and coatings. Water-based inks and coatings formulated with Joncryl® products are a good sustainable, consistent quality alternative to solvent-based products. The Joncryl® range contains acrylic and styrene-acrylic RC emulsions, acrylic colloidals, crosslinking agents, polyethylene waxes for water-based ink & overprint varnish. Joncryl® ECO is a product range of glycol-ether-free and food-contact compliant dispersions. Joncryl® ECO types are meeting the stringent demands of food and packaging applications, such as for the tobacco and the confectionary markets.

PPG LO-VEL® flatting agents comprise a comprehensive line of synthetic amorphous precipitated silica products that reduce the gloss of (or flatten) coatings, paints, varnishes, lacquers, inks and other finishes.

Hydropalat® from BTC types are used as wetting agents and surface modifiers. They provide a formulation with adequate wetting properties, enhance different component compatibility and/or improve the appearance of a coated surface in furniture & floorings coatings, automotive & industrial coatings, inks & printing applications.

Pergopak® flatting and matting agents are organic thermoset polymethyl urea resins (PMU) offering significantly different performance advantages and benefits versus typical silica and polypropylene type flatting agents. Pergopak products help formulators of industrial coatings, inks and overprint varnishes to achieve a higher performing balance of low gloss, rheology, abrasion resistance, coin-marking, water resistance, chemical resistance, heat resistance and soft feel - that they are unable to achieve with silica or wax flatting agents alone.

Matt to ultra-matte paint surfaces require matting agents with the highest efficiency. That’s were synthetic, micronized silica of the sylysia range come into play. They are characterized by a controlled porosity and a narrow particle size distribution. The extensive range of unmodified or surface-treated grades makes sylysia matting powders suitable for many modern applications.In addition to pure surface matting, sylysia silica are also used for other surface effects such as anti-blocking and improved printability of surfaces.

Addition of DISPARLON® provides thixotropy with good shear thinning for ease of application, gunability and excellent slump control/bead formation. DISPARLON provides a balanced mix of performance benefits for both waterborne and solventborne adhesive and sealant applications.
