Most people easily associate “jojoba” or “jojoba oil” with cosmetics. They are used to seeing it in the products they use every day including moisturizers, shampoos and conditioners, even anti-aging and sun care products. But this hypoallergenic “oil” (it's actually a liquid wax) is also available in it's simplest form, pure pressed jojoba oil.

Rosehip seed oil is truly an amazing product, which has only recently become recognized by the general public. This surge in popularity is for a good reason, as it is believed to be the best oil available for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation. Numerous scientific studies have also taken place, which have yielded astounding evidence supporting the use of Rosehip Seed oil.

In ancient Indian culture, Sesame oil has been used to treat different health and skin conditions for thousands of years. The oil is pressed from the seeds of the sesame plant, an annual originally found in Africa and India, but now grown widely around the world. It was known to the ancient Egyptians, Chinese and the Romans. Sesame seed oil can be used as a general-purpose oil and it suits most cosmetic applications; Creams, lotions, body butter; sun care; massage products; soap; bath oils. Sesame oil is high in zinc which helps produce collagen in the skin. The oil contains an antioxidant called sesamol.

This Refined Rosehip oil has a light yellow color and is very lightly scented, almost odorless. Refined oils have been filtered to remove color and odor and are often referred to as Cosmetic grade as they are favored in the making of cosmetic products as the color and smell of Virgin oils can interfere with other ingredients. Some say refined oils have impurities removed, this is true in a sense as they typically have longer shelf life than Virgin oils. Rosehip oil has been cold-pressed from the crushed fruit and seeds of a certain variety of wild rose plant, specifically rosa canina, endemic to Chile. After the rose petals have dropped the distinctive red fruit is harvested. The fruit is also called the hip, hence the name Rosehip. Rosehip oil is high in vitamins such as vitamin C and A, a rich source of antioxidants and essential fatty acids. These vitamins can help reduce signs of skin aging and may help prevent fine lines. This oil also contains antioxidants like tocopherol and carotenoids that have been known to protect the skin and is also rich in anti-inflammatory acids that may help soothe redness and irritation.

The Marula Tree which is found in the woodland areas of Southern parts of Africa grows up to 18m tall. The oil is clear, pale, yellow-brown in color and has a pleasant nutty aroma. It is medium rich and silky to the touch. Marula oil contains antioxidants, vitamin C and E, and Omega-9 fatty acids. The generic name (Sclerocarya) is believed to have come from Greek (Sclerocarya) for hard (skleros) and nut (karyon). The Oil is expressed from the sundried nuts from the Yellow fruit of the Marula Tree which is available from December through to April. Marula Oil is rich in oleic acid giving it a very good oxidative stability making it ideal for anti-aging products. It is also highly moisturizing for the skin and hair and is easily absorbed. The fruits of the marula tree are used to make marula beer and a liqueur called Amarula. In South Africa, the tree is protected by law so it is a common sight to see a free-standing tree in a cultivated field. Traditional marriages take place under a Marula Fruit Tree as it is considered a symbol of fertility and a good omen.

Conventional or organic available Prickly Pear oil is nutrient packed and has one of the highest levels of Vitamin E of any plant-based source and contains 150 percent more Vitamin E than the long time facial favorite, Argan oil. Vitamin E is a beloved ingredient in skincare, found in moisturizers, facial oils, face masks, and so much more. Originating in Morocco, prickly pear seed oil, also known as 'barbary fig oil is easily absorbed through the skin, it exerts powerful regenerating and restructuring properties. The tree has an upright form that is a self-pollinating papershell. Almonds require a climate with dry summer/autumns and cool winters. Almond and related species are native to the Mediterranean climate region of the Middle East. The original plantings and beginning of the almond industry in Australia occurred in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. The industry expanded into the South Australian Riverland in the 1960s and then along the Murray River in the 1970s. The Australian almond industry is concentrated in NSW, SA and Victoria with almost 29,000 ha of cultivated almond trees.

Conventional or organic available Hazelnut oil comes from the nuts of the Hazel tree, the botanical name of which is Corylus americana. Originally native to Europe, it is now grown extensively across the world including America. The nut is a delicacy that is often used in cooking, combined with chocolate. Hazelnut Oil has many benefits as it is considered valuable for facial and body massages. It has a high content of essential fatty acids like linoleic acid. Hazelnut is high in Vitamin E and also contains decent amounts of vitamin B6, folate, phosphorus, potassium and zinc. Hazelnut oil has a very light, pleasing sweet aroma, which is also somewhat nutty. It is slightly heavier than other carrier oils, and is highly moisturizing

Conventional or organic available Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) , also known as goat nut, deer nut, pignut, wild hazel, quinine nut, coffeeberry, and gray box bush, is native to South-western North America. The plant came to prominence in the late 1970s when scientists found that the liquid wax from the jojoba bean has a strikingly similar structure to the natural wax esters in human skin. The CSIRO introduced the plant to Australia in 1978 and selectively bred certain varieties especially suited to Australian conditions. Commercial plantations are now established across the country, including at Kalannie, Wagin, Geraldton and York in Western Australia. A shrubby bush which usually grows between 3-6 feet, though occasionally taller, the leaves are up to 1 ½” long, thick with a waxy gray-green coloration. The flowers are small with a green-yellow color and contain no petals. The plant is usually dioecious, either male or female, with both sexes needed to produce the fruit. Occasionally there are hermaphrodite plants but this is rare. The plants can live between 100-200 years. While often solitary in growth, jojoba’s can produce ground based shoots and form into thickets.

Conventional or organic available The Avocado Tree is an evergreen native to Mexico and Central America but now grown worldwide. The fruit is a berry, consisting of a single large seed, surrounded by a buttery pulp. Avocado oil is obtained from the cold press of the fruit pulp, which is rich in vitamins, minerals, nutrients and fatty acids. The oil is usually a dark green color with a thick feeling texture. It has quite a strong fresh, sweet and nutty aroma. A highly moisturizing oil, Avocado oil has been embraced by the cosmetic industry and is a very popular product with a variety of uses.

Conventional or organic available The Apricot tree (Prunus armeniaca) is the most commonly cultivated apricot species. It is a small tree that grows up to 12 meters tall with a dense, spreading canopy. The fruits, which ripen to orange or yellowish orange, sometimes tinged with red, have soft flesh surrounding a hard, flattened stone, containing a kernel within. Apricot oil is pressed from the seed of the fruit. It has a clear light texture and is easily absorbed by the skin and full of nutrients and rich in essential fatty acids and is an excellent moisturizer.

Conventional or organic available The olive tree (Olea europaea) is a small species of tree in the family Oleaceae. It is native to the coastal areas of the eastern Mediterranean Basin, Africa and parts of Asia. It is widely naturalized in southern and eastern Australia, particularly in temperate regions.It is most common in south-eastern South Australia, but is also naturalized in south-eastern and central Queensland, in the sub-coastal regions of central and northern New South Wales, in western and central Victoria, in many other parts of South Australia, and in the coastal and sub-coastal districts of south-western Western Australia. The history of Olive Farming in Australia dates back to the early 1800’s. Olives were first planted in groves around Parramatta near Sydney. It is an evergreen tree that grows between 2-12 meters in height and has numerous branches. It is a subtropical broad-leaved evergreen tree with edible fruit. Its leaves, leathery and lance-shaped, are dark green above and silvery on the underside and are paired opposite each other on the twig. The wood is resistant to decay. If the top dies back, a new trunk will often arise from the roots. The olive fruit is classed botanically as a drupe, similar to the peach or plum. Olive trees bloom in late spring small, whitish flowers are borne in loose clusters in the axils of the leaves. Available as Refined or Unrefined

Conventional or organic available Helianthus annuus, the common sunflower, is a large annual forb of the genus Helianthus grown as a crop for its edible oil and edible fruits (sunflower seeds). It grows up to 3m in height with coarsely hairy leaves and stems. The terminal flowers heads are large and showy, up to 5 in. across. A tall, coarse leafy plant with a hairy stem commonly branched in the upper half and bearing several or many flower heads, the central maroon disk surrounded by many bright yellow rays. The plant was first domesticated in the Americas. Wild Helianthus annuus is a widely branched annual plant with many flower heads. The domestic sunflower, however, often possesses only a single large inflorescence (flower head) atop an unbranched stem. The name sunflower may derive from the flower's head's shape, which resembles the sun, or from the false impression that the blooming plant appears to slowly turn its flower towards the sun as the latter moves across the sky on a daily basis. Sunflower seeds were brought to Europe from the Americas in the 16th century, where, along with sunflower oil, they became a widespread cooking ingredient. From there they were introduced to Australia where they are harvested predominantly in Queensland and NSW. However, there is an emerging industry in Western Australia, particularly in the Ord river catchment and in the south-west of the state as a summer rotational crop.

Conventional or organic available Macadamia - Macadamia integrifolia - is a tree in the Proteaceae family, native to Queensland in Australia. The Macadamia is a medium-sized tree which can grow to approximately 20 m in height with a similar crown width, giving the tree a rounded shape its leaves are simple with toothed margins and are 7 to 15 cm in length. The flowers are white or pinkish followed by woody, rounded fruits which are 2 to 3.5 cm in diameter. The story of the macadamia began thousands of years ago, in the rainforest along the north east coast of Australia. Before European settlement, Aboriginal people congregated on the eastern slopes of Australia’s Great Dividing Range to feed on the seed of two evergreen trees, one of which they called ‘Kindal Kindal’ which was the macadamia. Aboriginal people had other names for macadamia including Boombera, Jindill & Baupal. Macadamias were not staple fare they were considered a delicacy and were treasured and collected wherever they were found. They were also traded between tribes and used as special ceremonial gifts at inter-tribal corroborees. Aboriginal women would collect macadamias in their coolamons or dilly bags and take them to their feasting grounds. They would remove the husk and crack the shells using stones with special indentations. This technique involved placing the flat indented stone over the nut and then striking it with a larger stone, delivering an even force and minimizing the damage to the kernel.
