"While the Civil War was coming to an end, Piqua started mining limestone in 1865 to help supply limestone products for the Miami County, Ohio area. Not long after the plant started, Piqua Materials produced materials for the Miami Erie Canal, and was a major supplier to several buildings and churches in and around Piqua, Ohio. Most of this architecture can still be viewed today a testament to the type and quality of stone produced at Piqua Materials. The Jurgensen Companies acquired Piqua Materials in 1989. In order to provide their customers with the highest quality limestone and service possible, Piqua Materials has continued to grow its operations by adding the latest technology and equipment available. To provide the agriculture industry with a consistent and reliable high calcium soil amendment product, Piqua Materials built a new Aglime mill and indoor storage facility in 2010. This facility has helped fulfill demand as a primary supplier of Aglime available all year long. Furthermore, in 2015 Piqua Materials continued their investment with the construction of a new pulverizing mill. This highly automated facility supplies high quality calcium carbonate mineral fillers to industrial users thoughout the Midwest. Piqua Materials produces the highest quality products that meet and exceed Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) specifications. Currently, the Piqua plant produces materials extensively used in asphalt, ready mix, and road base, residential and commercial construction. The Piqua team is well trained, diversified and is firmly committed to excellent customer service and satisfaction."
