Deuteron MM 677

1 of 86 products in this brand
Deuteron MM 677 can be used as a matting agent in various aqueous coating systems. These can be lacquers based on acrylic dispersion, wood glazings, wood- and furniture lacquers, printing inks and industrial finishes (air-drying and stoving enamels). In comparison with powdery matting agents Deuteron MM 677 particularly offers the advantage of dust-free handling. The product can be easily incorporated by all common dispersing processes. When producing clear varnish, only a small rate of shear is required to incorporate Deuteron MM 677. This prevents forming of micro foam in the production batch. Even when Deuteron MM 677 is added to the mill base or the dispersion-medium, overmilling is practically impossible due to its excellent shear stability. The matting liquid is kept free of wetting agent and binder. Their presence usually limits the compatibility. Waxes or similar products are not included either. This allows for the use of Deuteron MM 677 in a wide field of applications. Deuteron MM 677 causes little cloudiness and is therefore also suitable for the use in clear varnishes. back

Applications

Deuteron MM 677 can be used as a matting agent in various aqueous coating systems. These can be lacquers based on acrylic dispersion, wood glazings, wood- and furniture lacquers, printing inks and industrial finishes (air-drying and stoving enamels). In combination with suitable binders the use of Deuteron MM 677 allows for the production of weather resistant flat coatings for exterior applications. The surfaces of these coatings only have very little tendency towards soiling. When using Deuteron MM 677 as a matting agent, additional amount of water is incorporated into the system. In most cases this can be balanced by modifying the formula In certain fields of application the present formulation will not tolerate the total amount of water which is contained in the matting liquid. In this case it is recommended to use either Deuteron MK or a combination of Deuteron MM 677 and Deuteron MK. The combination of the matting liquid with products from the range of silicid acids is also possible as long as secondary side effects like rheology and cloudiness are desired/allowed in the respective application.

Dosage

Depending on the required degree of gloss the dosage can be increased up to 25%. The effectiveness of the product in an aqueous acrylicsystem is shown in the following diagram.

Processing

Due to its composition and flow properties Deuteron MM 677 can be incorporated easily with all common mechanical stirrers or, if required, with a paddle. Matting of dispersion systems always entails a possible damage to the particle structure of the dispersion (binder) by a high rate of shear. The use of a liquid matting agent can remedy this. No high rate of shear is required to obtain a homogeneous dispersion in the system, with uniform formation of matting agent at the coatings surface.Dust free processing“ by pumping or pouring offers considerable advantages regarding economy and ecology. The content of water in the matting liquid has to be taken into consideration regarding the formula. When producing pigmented semigloss paints the product can be used without problems as a part of the dispersing medium due to its excellent stability to shear rate. As Deuteron MM 677 is free of wetting agent, problems with foam have not to be expected. This offers further advantages when producing pigmented systems or clear varnishes.

Storage Conditions & Package Sizes

Deuteron MM 677 can be stored for at least 12 months in its original tightly closed containers without losing effectiveness. In order to ensure easy processing without stirring, it is recommended to use the product within 6 month. Separation which possibly occurs is indicated by forming of water. This is dependant on storage conditions respective conditions during transport of the product. It can be ignored and removed by pumping. The product should be stored frost free.
