Caraway is used in traditional herbal medicines for the symptomatic treatment of digestive disorders such as flatulence and bloating. In addition, the spice is used in folk medicine as a lactating agent for breastfeeding women.
In food:
As a spice extract in hearty dishes, such as potato and vegetable dishes, sauerkraut, bread, pastries, cheese, sausage, curd cheese and spirits. In flatulent dishes (e.g.cabbage, fresh bread) the extract improves the tolerance.
In food supplements:
The caraway extract is also suitable for use in food supplements.
In cosmetics:
The CO2-extracted essential oil of caraway has a fresh, spicy, warm and characteristic scent and can therefore be used as a fragrance in perfumes, soaps and other cosmetic products. In addition, the essential oil has a good inhibitory effect against dermatophytes which cause infections such as athlete's foot and has an antibacterial effect.
