Bulk liquid sugar is made by dissolving refined granulated sugar in water. Generally, it is manufactured according to a solids level of 67.5%. Therefore, industry practice often refers to the finished product as having a “Brix” of 67.5%.

  • Principally, the food industry utilizes liquid sugar as a sweetener ingredient. Liquid sugar is often utilized in beverages such as soda, juice, iced tea, and lemonade.
  • However, when a darker color is desired, amber liquid sugar is used. Liquid sugar is also used as a blend component with other liquid sweeteners, primarily corn syrup, for specific applications.
  • Interestingly, the industry also employs liquid sugar in some of their manufacturing processes.
  • Pharma liquid sugar sweetens various pharmaceuticals and is often employed in the production of tablets for coating, adding volume, or simply flavoring. Therefore, liquid sugar can also act as a preservative.
