- Product Profile
Xanthan gum exhibits extraordinary and useful properties, for example high viscosity at low concentrations, little change in viscosity at varying temperatures, and excellent stability over a wide pH range. It also provides good freeze-thaw stability and shows remarkable suspension characteristics.
It is used as a stabilizer, emulsifier, thickener, suspending agent and bodying agent in foodapplications such as salad dressings, sauces, instant products, desserts, bakery dairy products, and fruit juices as well as in the formation of various low-calorie foods. Cosmeticand pharmaceutical applications of xanthan gum include the use in tooth pastes, lotions, shampoos and formulations such as tablets. Typical industrial applications of xanthan gum is the use in cleaners, paints, ceramic glazes, inks and oil drilling fluids.- Product Highlights

- Regulatory Clearances
In 1969 xanthan gum was cleared as a food additive by the FDA for the US market. In 1980 the EC approved xanthan gum and registered it as E415. Many countries have set specific rules concerning the use of food additives. We therefore advise to carefully investigate them before the use of xanthan gum in your application.
Packaging & Availability
- Packaging
Standard packaging for Jungbunzlauer xanthan gum is 20 kg net polyethylene-lined, corrugated cardboard boxes for food grade and 25 kg net paper bags for technical grade.
Storage & Handling
- Storage and Stability
In its powder form xanthan gum can be easily and safely stored for several years. Xanthan gum solutions, however, although more resistant to microbial attack than most other water soluble biopolymers, should be protected by adequate preservatives when the storage time exceeds 24 hours.
